After many years of searching I finally picked up my new watch and needless to say I'm grinning all round. Utterly stunning and I'm very pleased with it.

I hope to have it as my day-to-day piece and over time, I will replace the leather strap with the steel bracelet from the JH 80 from last year.

Thanks! biggrin

It's quite a step up from my old Tag Heuer quartz 2000 series!

This is the bracelet I'd like to replace the leather strap with....

I prefer a leather strap.

I was considering one to go with my Tag Carrera Twin time

It's actually taking me some time to get used to the leather strap as I've never had one before. But I worry about getting it wet and damaging the leather. (Another reason for replacing it).

Either way, if I have both, I have an option. I just need to get some decent watch tools to replace it myself.

Any recommendations where to start for this?

Replacement leather straps are only £30 as long as you don't buy Tag branded ones.

I don't have any watch tools.

Sorted.

Very, very nice watch; shows that when TAG put their minds to it, they come up with some stunners.

I have an original one from around 1964 (Carrera 45) going begging if anyone wants one scratchchin

Yep, silver dial. She's a beaut but as with many others, almost never worn. Last outing was Goodwood Revival!

I notice they changed the branding so it is a Carrera Heuer not a Carrera Tag Heuer

A lot of ltd ed model have the "tag" name removed
Or re issue models.

The Carrara is about to move to the 1969 movement.

Top end watches these days, but that means higher prices :-(

I thought I'd bump this piece again. I've had my watch now for a few months now and not all has been plain sailing.

I unfortunately dropped the watch as I was putting it on my wrist and knocked part of the movement out of place. My home has marble floors everywhere so you can imagine it was quite a knock which resulted in the movement running very fast (gaining four minutes per hour). That had to be repaired which was luckily done with no charge by my jeweller.

However the drop left a dent in the bezel so that has to now be replaced. You can barely see it but I know it's there and it annoys me constantly. Cost for that is £120 and I'm still waiting for the new piece to arrive frown

You can just about see the knock on the bezel where the light bends slightly as a result of the dent, just below 10 o'clock.

Aside from that, it's a beautiful watch. I get complimented on it often and I've got used to the leather strap. I still use my old Tag Heuer 2000 series for the beach but overall I'm very pleased with the JH81 Carrera. Awesome watch, but I'm still very conscious of how fragile the automatic movement is!

You've wrecked it, and it will never be the same again.
I'll give you £10 to take it off your hands and ease your suffering.

Joking apart it's a lovely watch. I think it suits the leather strap more than the steel.
I think I would go for a perforated rally strap next time.

Considering what tag normally charges to come out of that kind of knock with only a £120 outlay is a huge win. Though I suspect it will take you a while to feel it!

Love that watch. I'm considering the blue face one at the moment.
