Hi all,
Thinking of adding an early 70s Orient divers watch to my humble collection. What are the views on this brand? I understand theyve been a subsidiary of Seiko for the last few years, but wondered if the quality was there 40yrs ago?

Thanks in advance

Ken

The only Orient I have is this one. It's an Orient King Diver. It says water resistant to 40m on the back, so not very resistant then and not much of a diver at all! I think they did make proper divers, but I haven't done much research into Orient as I have not seen many older models that I like the look of.

From my one example, which could be described as well worn in, I'd put the quality similar or slightly lower than a 70s Citizen or Seiko, but better than a Timex or Vostok of the period.

Not really fair to judge them on just my watch though. I have no horological expertise, I'm just going on a gut feeling based on how it looks, feels and ticks.

Thanks for taking the time to reply - I cant imagine I would ever use a 70s Orient watch for diving, or any other for that matter as I don't dive smile - I just have a love for 70s looking diving watches. I would imagine they would be waterproof to about 6 foot these days if you're lucky....

Love the pic of the watch you've added, very nice.

Thanks again
K

That's a nice looking watch, works well on the NATO. Blue / black always a good combo.
