I’ve been stuck on what watch I want next and think I’ve settled on a Planet Ocean however can anyone tell me what the difference is between these two model's other than one of them has the 12 O’clock in orange.
This will be my first expensive watch, what kind of discount should I expect most forums say 20% is easy to obtain, is there a particular time of year that’s best to make a purchase?
Watch price £5240

Planet Ocean
232.30.46.51.01.003

The only difference is the orange number compared to the silver number. Same movement and size.

20% is a push these days unless the store is desperate for business. As a rule cash/card is king for discount. Where are you based?

Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire

I'm able to get 15% discount at certain Jewelry shops through work on top of any discount I can haggle in store so limited to the big dealers.

Is the work discount like a top up card? I've seen a few company's that let you top up a "store card" and they add the % on?

If this is the case then you'll get the watch for a great price. I've a few contacts in the Glasgow and Newcastle area so not much help in your neck of the woods I'm afraid.

Yeah I get the top up card at nearly all the major high street chains so even with a 10% discount from the store I know I'm getting a great watch at a really good price.

I understand the movement is Omegas own should be well made then?

Shh, don't tell anyone else here but IMO, the Planet Ocean range is superior to many Rolex watches wink

Does it have to be brand new? you can save a decent wedge by looking at pre-owned.

I picked up mine (non chrono) vrsn for just over £2800, 1 yrs old, box and papers.

Also, Swiss watches direct have them up for a shade over 4K.

Happy shopping!cool

I can't get excited about Rolex they do nothing for me. After that statement I'm expecting my PH membership to be removed. wavey see ya!

I would prefer a new one only as I want to pass the watch down when I have kids, and quite like the shop feel with somthing like this.

As mentioned I get a top up card through work so I'm limited to the main high street chains to use the cards but if you work for one of them great!

I used to wear the planet ocean at £3950 ceramic bezel silver numebers and kicked the arse out of it every day. It never went back in its box and I dropped it knocked it daily. It kept better time than anything I've worn before and couldn't fault it at all. A mate of mine has it now and it's been through two refurbs and still keeps great time. Was circa 1 second out every two weeks during the 2012 Olympics! No excuses for being late haha

Visit a Goldsmiths with your card and ask for a good deal around 9% and you should be a happy man.

IMO it isn't. It's as good though, although lets see how they're doing in 20 years wink

They won't have the same residuals because Rolex watches are more famous and popular with (some) people who want everyone to know they have an expensive watch.

I think the PO is as good in terms of movement and construction to a submariner but it will never hold its value as well or appreciate in value or have the same 'kudos' and iconic history. It depends what you mean by "superior".

The PO is a great looking watch, although I am shocked by the price of new ones, I'm sure they were £2,500 ish when they first came out, was it around 10 years ago? These new ones have a ceramic bezel but is the rest just inflation and 'brand positioning'?

I love the way you can completely change the look of the watch with the rubber strap and steel bracelet.

New Bezel, case, movement, bracelet and clasp. Totally new watch a lot of people still prefer the older look but new one wins every time for me.

Rolex for show and Omega for a pro haha

I think the main advantage this has over Rolex is size. This is 45.5, which is a decent size, not the tiny 40mm of a Sub

OP, have you looked at the non chrono versions. The Black with Orange numbers on SS bracelet is just beautiful, and as close to a perfect all rounder as I can find

The Non chrono version is very nice I do quite like the busier face on the chrono is it worth the extra £1400, not sure yet I need another viewing.

For wrist presence, yes, as they do wear big. The current PO models are thick/tall (the Chrono especially) as well as a 45.5mm wide case. It's not much of an advantage when it won't fit under a shirt cuff. I like my watches to slide under the cuff so that they are protected and can be hidden. You can get a 42mm case model which works well.

I too prefer the non-chrono models though the current 2-subdial chrono models (in-house movement) look 'less busy' than the older 3-subdial models. The non-chrono is also not quite so tall a watch case.

It's funny, I've never had an issue with the whole shirt cuff thing. I wear cufflinks a lot, and maybe that helps, but even the button cuffs glide over mine without issue.
