I hope I am ok to post in this section as have seen others do the same.

Looking to get a ring for the Mrs for our 10th anniversary and sort of birthday combined (within a couple of days to each other) at the end of the month. One of our local independent jewellery stores has this Hearts on fire brand, which Mrs G really likes. Having read up on so called brand diamonds and how they make a huge mark up, was thinking whether going forward with this was a good decision? In terms of getting value for money. Sorry if sounds a bit tight...

I know what she likes and the type of ring she wants, however unsure whether someone could replicate it. Maybe a little paranoid on reading too much into buying diamonds on the high street is a rip off!

Any advice around the brand, as I know there are some experts on here.

Thanks G

Can you get yourself to Bicester outlet mall? There is a hearts on fire store with discounted diamonds. I bought my wife's earrings from there a few weeks ago with a circa 45% discount off list which made it more reasonable

I run an independent jewellery workshop servicing the south coast and beyond and if you have a design idea I can make pretty much anything you need. If you're happy to discuss by email then feel free to drop me a message.

Just received a diamond ring back from Eddie with a custom made solitaire mount. Very reasonable on price smile and lovely work. Would seriously recommend dropping him a line a leas to talk about it.

Regardless of what "brands she likes", for an anniversary there's something extra special about "I commissioned it specially for you"!

Or if you're in Laaandaaan taan go and see Dominic Hackett. He's having a diamond ring made up for Mrs yeti at the moment.

Depending on your budget I've a friend that's selling a 2 carat diamond solitaire ring for 5k? Has a insurance valuation from 2008 I think for 12k?

If you would like to save circa 20% then if you can get a friend who is a non EU resident to take the ring out of Europe on a cheap easyjet flight, then you can get the VAT back (minus a return easyjet flight)....
