I am in the market for one of these (not yet decided which) and have been going into dealers to enquire about prices.

I am getting (US and Latam dealers)

Submariner date: about USD 8,500 - 8,550
Sea Dweller (40mm one): about USD 10,400
Deep Sea (44mm, blue and black face): about USD 12,050- 12,350

In your experience are prices much different in other parts of the world?

I really like the Submariner, but as this will be a one-off purchase to last a long time, I can't help feeling that the other watches might be a bit more special.

If it helps I am athletically built, clean shaven and not a company director.

You may narrow your choice after wearing each one.

You could be a pie eating, hairy arsed company director and the same answer still applies.

I'm short, over weight, happy and hetro. wink

Hello sailor!

I have worn them in the jewelers, TBH a longer 'test drive' would be better but can't see them allowing that. The sub and the sea dweller feel and look very similar, the big deep sea is a chunky bit of kit but it might grow on me...

Truth to tell, they're all very different watches, despite looking similar and having ostensibly similar purposes. The Sub is a nice watch, but feels overly light/small (to my mind) compared to the SD. Then again, I have large wrists - I bought some watches from a PH company director type on here and have to wear them three notches looser on the strap - but even I find the DSSD to be massively over the top and pretty much unwearable.

Sure, it's a whole new thing (TM), but it's too much of a new thing. Too big, too heavy, and draws attention to itself far too much. You couldn't wear it in the boardroom unless you wanted to look like the most massive cock, whereas the others are sufficiently discreet to be worn on all occasions.

So for me it comes down to the Sub or the SD. And truthfully, although I chose (and would choose it again) the SD, the Sub suits most people better. A bit lighter, a bit slimmer, a bit more discreet, if you can get past that bloody Cyclops and some of the more garish colours.

Edited to add - those prices all seem quite high to me- buy a secondhand one and you shouldn't have to pay anything like that much. One of the guys on here is selling a non-date Sub for £3k which is, to my mind, a pretty good deal.

I have just returned from my local AD after trying on a Submariner, Sea Dweller 4000 and a GMT II.

For me it has to be the Sea Dweller 4000, there is just something about it.

I'm not quite ready to buy yet, but I am going to get one

The Sub is an all time classic, the SD has that extra oomph for me.

Of the 'new' range - SD4000 all day long!

Nice problem to have!

I have my 'old' SD on as I type and I still fancy the new one!

What makes the SD4000 better than the Sub?

Basically it's a pretty close to being a reintroduction of the old SD16600. So bigger and heavier than the Sub, but smaller and less inyerface than the DSSD

but are the shoulders wider on the new SD?

I am still tempted by the old SD 16600 - can get excellent condition ones here in SG from 2nd hand dealers for around S7-8k ... Which seems less than private sellers on TZ want in the UK ... tempted to pick one up locally

The new SD is very much an update of the original where the Sub is a redesign... Perhaps not quite that but the Sub is much (or appears to be) squarer than the SD. The GMT II is also much squarer and I prefer my 'original' Coke...

I also prefer the lack of cyclops, HEV and thicker case - just a classic piece and I'm not likely to resist much longer!

I was in a similar quandary until a couple of weeks ago. I'd been eyeing up all three models for quite some months and kept popping into different dealers in different countries trying them all on and comparing prices. The Sub is lovely but I loath the cyclops so it would have to be a non-date date model for me.

The DeepSea very much appeals to my love of big, chunky dive watches but is let down by it's pissy bracelet; a watch that size needs a bracelet of similar proportions. Saying that I rarely wear my watches on a bracelet, so disregard that factor. What put me off was mostly the thickness of the watch; it looks a little slab sided and sits quite high off the wrist.

The SD4000 though is just perfect to my eye. It's the right amount of chunky without going ott, has a date wheel without that ugly cyclops and felt special enough to be a keeper for life. It's the one I went for and when I'm not at work it's on my wrist for most things:

Price wise, you'll struggle to get a discount on the SD4000 as it's still very new (I managed a 1% off list so a tad cheaper than you listed there) but I got offered good discounts on the other two. One telling sign about people's feelings towards the DeepSea is that I've never found a dealer anywhere in the world that didn't have one in stock. Not the case with the Sub or SD4000 the later of which was rarely in stock when I was looking.

It's a nice choice to have to make, so enjoy the decision making smile

I honestly think that is the very best choice. I had a DSSD for years and loved it, apart from the narrow bracelet, but the SD4000 is great piece and beautifully sized without being a loud, shouty piece.

just took delivery of a deepsea the other day and i love love love it. Amazing bit of engineering.

The prices you quote above, at least for the Deepsea and assuming today's exchange rate, are higher than UK list.
