Has anyone any idea, (maybe someone in the trade), how much mark up a typical high street jeweller makes on a top end watch, say once costing around 5k.

I have no interest in buying one, as I have better things to spend that kind of money on....(My watch cost less than £7), but I'm just curious, that's all.

(Especially one where discounting is frowned upon by the distributors/makers.)

Cheers.

WR.

If a jeweller is an authorised dealer there will be all sorts of things factored into the relationship.

Minimum numbers they need to shift, quarterly and year end payments, marketing support, money paid for shop fit outs and refurbs, invitations to events and launches etc etc so I don't think its as simple as buy in at xxx advertise at yyy.

If you simplified it to that I'd guess a Breitling with an RRP of £5k they will if pushed sell it for £4.25 (15% off) they get it for £3.5k.

I know others will rubbish my figures though.

When I bought my Omega a few years back it was retailing at something like £3.2K.

A friend of my OH was a manager in a highstreet jewelers and sourced the watch for me at cost for £2200.

I don't think just putting a smiley there is much help at all.

I think it's the fact you think £4.25 is 85% of 5k

Actually, I would perhaps consider buying a breitling if they sold for £4.25
