I have a Seiko SKX with slightly misaligned hands. I should have returned it when new but it came from Creation but I was too lazy and a little concerned to send it all the way back to Singapore.

Anyway I popped it into a local jewellers thinking it would be a cheap fix. They say it will have to go back to Seiko at a cost of £20 postage and packaging. Seiko will then confirm the cost of repair. For a watch that cost a little more than £110 I don't think it's worth it.

I could live with it but it triggers my OCD.

Is there anyone out there who can sort it at little cost?

The problem you're going to have is, unless you find someone local to you to actually do the job, it's going to cost as much in postage than the job itself if you want it insured in transit.

To give you an idea, if someone walked in with that problem I'd either quote under a tenner, or ask for a donation in the RBL poppy, depending how I was feeling and how good a day I'd had.

But returning it by special delivery is going to cost £7.15 + a jiffy bag + time to get to the post office, which is going to take it up to the £20 you've been quoted.

Sadly, that's what happens when people let the national chains kill off their local independent specialists!

I only bought the watch from Creation because my local jeweller didn't stock it. I went to my local jeweller with the watch in large part because I want to keep my business local and away from chains. Incidentally, they are an independent jeweller from whom I have bought two Tudors and four Rolex over the years, not to mention all the jewellery purchased for my wife. I'm a little surprised that they can't do it but there we are. I was happy to throw a few pounds at the problem but not get sucked into paying more than a reason proportion of what the watch is worth.

I'm happy to send it to you if you're willing to help...?

If it's still less than a year old, then it's under warranty, and Seiko will repair it.
You can send it to them directly rather than going through a store – you'll find the Customer Service number with a simple Seiko UK search on Google.

PJS has the obvious solution, and Seiko UK are usually pretty good at this sort of thing. They're in Maidenhead and do offer a "walk in" service if that happens to be convenient for you:

Failing that, if you'd like us to deal with it, drop me a PM for address smile
