My wife went to Goldsmiths for a new battery just to be told they would not replace batteries any longer and that the watch would need to be sent away for 4- 6 weeks (!).
Since DIY is not really an option- any ideas reg alternatives, ideally Peterborough/ Leicester area?

Many thanks in advance!

Any decent independent. Don't know of any in the Leicester area but there's almost bound to be one or two hiding away! If you get really stuck, we can do them by post with a much faster turnaround than that - usually 2 - 3 days inc postal time wink

Try to avoid national chains because the level of expertise tends to be very variable from one branch to the next.

I had similar with my Omega Constellation (men's stainless steel quartz bought in 1995). Took it round various big name jewellers and a couple of those independent watch repair chains. All said they'd be in breach of some license or something if they didn't do it "properly", i.e., send it away for ages and charge me the thick end of £100. John Dyson in Leeds came to the rescue, doing it in the shop for £15.

Ahh, the wonders of the Swiss Watch cartel!

The sooner potential owners switch on to how Swatch Group is operating and reject their products the better for the whole industry (apart from Swatch Group, of course)!
