I've seen the Swatch in their Oxford St store and whilst impressive inside, it feels a bit 'plasticky'- probably because it is!
I've recently bought a £50 Seiko 5 (a blue one) from Amazon for my son for Xmas and it feels like a real-watch. He's 9 so will be elated. It's not waterproof though, just splashproof (30m)

I'd get this

I bought this one, which was a fiver cheaper last week:

It has a nice feel to it and there are pix on the RHS that users have sent in which are better than the sellers pictures. It also has a transparent back

Here's an in-depth review of the Swatch. It's not exactly complimentary....

Basically, buy it, wear it, throw it in the bin.
Seiko, on the other hand, make autos that I regularly get in for service at 30 or 40 years old. Granted, their new ones aren't quite up to the quality of the early ones, but still a far better bet than a sealed watch with plastic escapement!
If you like dive style then it's also worth looking at Citizen - pretty sure they're not importing non-dive autos any more. Uber reliable and the one-way auto winding was actually an engineering decision because it's more efficient when the watch doesn't get much movement.
