Battle for the deep: Tudor BB Vs. CW C60 Trident Pro 600
Discussion
So, Christopher Ward seem to have stepped up their marketing and are directly comparing themselves to Tudor.....
Whilst I do like CW, I own a C60 Trident Pro myself, I think that there isn't really a comparison. What they have done is clever, but, they have totally disregarded the heritage and horological history of Tudor, not withstanding the fact that the Tudor (and the C60) are based on designs made years ago by Tudor/ Rolex group! But hey.... The C60 can go deeper.....

Anyway... discuss.... Tudor Heritage Black Bay Vs. C60 Trident Pro 600

How so? The BB is a revisioning of a classic design from the 1050's(???) but built using modern manufacturing techniques and materials, the C60 is a sub-a-like with similar colours to the BB.
Depends on what you value more in a watch I guess....
The only difference I read in your words are "Tudor are stealing from their own design" - Maybe I need my marketing goggles on?

Funny, I got a hard time on the CW forum for daring to suggest the red bezeled C60 was trying to look like the Black Bay...
They're both divers, I suppose, and I suspect the less interested will see two newish brands (Tudor only just appearing in the UK) with similar spec watches, one cheaper, but seemingly better specced (Better WR - Like a 300HP car is ALWAYS better than a 200HP one!
), than the other.I just bought an old-style orange bezeled C60, but I think, of these two, I prefer the Tudor, mostly because of the round markers on the dial, although I like the CW's hands better.

Snap! I've got the orange bezel C60 too, originally on Orange strap, but swapped for black croc and is transformed the watch! Mine has the round markers though, and I prefer the snowflake hands to the CW onion / sword handsThe only difference I read in your words are "Tudor are stealing from their own design" - Maybe I need my marketing goggles on?

That's exactly what I meant when I said "depends what you're looking for in a watch" some people will buy based on the raw spec of the watch, some people will buy into brand image and history etc.
Horses for courses. But the CW is blatantly jumping on the BB bandwagon.

Be interesting to see a few more things advertised the same way................BMW V Audi springs to mind

CW trying to prove their watch is better value whilst being very similar in a lot of the comparators they have offered. As stated above it is all down to personal choice in the end but the price differential is something quite substantial and that could sway a few folks.

They already do..... Aldi use the comparison marketing strategy Be interesting to see a few more things advertised the same way................BMW V Audi springs to mind

Deluded?
I've never owned a Christopher Ward, but remember a while back when they first emerged and seemed like reasonable value. I don't know what the quality is like, where they are made etc etc, but with 271 watches available, you could hardly say there's anything special going on? Just mass produced watches inspired by other designs.
The dial on that watch looks the same as an Omega Seamaster?
I'd rather buy the Tudor, I bet it would hold it's value better as well.

Really ? It's 3x the price and I'm not sure its 3x the watch !
How well do their watches hold their value? I expect worse than a Tag, and I doubt there's many people scouring the classifieds for Christopher Ward. They quote £2120 and £2330, but you can get them from Show Commerce in Italy for £1420 or £1570.
Even in the picture on their website, their watch looks like a toy next to the Tudor.
I purchased a BB on Friday and have to be honest and say CW didn't even cross my mind. I'm happy with my watch. Seems a strange advertising strategy.
Reading the comments on their forum indicates a lot of existing owners also think it's an odd move.
Now if I could get a CW Cunningham that would be different story...

They are trying to widen the appeal upmarket. Say what you want the spec is similar but the price difference is huge. If the looks is what you want and the performance, then CW. If you want a name and the chance it will hold its value more, the Tudor.
The quality of CW is very good, imho, I have a few CW, a Tag, Omega, Emmas, and a Swatch. You can see the quality of the Tag and the Omega in little ways, but are they worth the premium, probably not but to me they are.

How well do their watches hold their value? I expect worse than a Tag, and I doubt there's many people scouring the classifieds for Christopher Ward.I'm not sure that'll continue to be the case as they drive prices upmarket, but I guess if quality goes the same way, why not?
I paid £315 for my my C60 recently (admittedly in the sale), which doesn't buy you much with a similar spec in the watch world (and certainly not a Pelagos!
).Like TAG, it seems to be 'big and clever' to knock CW, often with no experience of their watches. You hear some worrying QC stories, but few of the "my watch has been with the maker for 9 months awaiting a new pusher" customer service horrors that more than a few 'premium brands' elicit.
They're getting undoubtedly more expensive, but whether that means they're worse VFM would have to depend on the relative quality of the watches.
I wonder where the CW hate comes from. They're a British company putting out decent value watches, at least in the recent past.
If you don't like their designs, don't buy one, but extolling the virtues of clones from Steinhart, whilst branding CWs as 'fakes' just seems like ill-informed snobbery to me (and, yes, I have a Steinart

Probably from marketing like this, really!I recently bought a Steinhart Ocean 1 and I fully acknowledge that it's a Sub rip-off in looks. It's a nice watch though, and spec for spec it matches the Christopher Ward other than being 300m, not 600m water resistant; to make up for that, it has the Elabore version of the same movement and is by far my most accurate automatic watch. And it is half the price of the Trident Pro. I had been planning to buy a Black Bay blue, which is why the comparison interested me; yes, the reason I bought the Steinhart instead was the price differential. But I'll probably still buy a Black Bay later as well...

Probably because Steinhart don't do a watch that is even remotely similar to the Black Bay or the C60 Trident in question here I'd guess......
Apart from having a red bezel, I'm not sure the Black Bay and C60 Trident are all that similar either. Take away colour from the equation and you have the Steinhart Ocean One and C60 Trident both being dive watches which aim at the Rolex Sub.Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
