I know there are a lot of watch shops there, but does anyone know if you can order in a specific model? I know they'll give you the vat-free price whether you're flying out of EU or not, so you get anything current at at least 20% off, legally too. But am less sure how to ensure what I want is in stock..... anyone managed to get them to bring one in for them?

What are you looking for ?

I travel regularly from Schiphol (flying Monday again in fact)

The prices are very competitive, and with the good EUR-GBP rate you will benefit from . . . . . .

Jeweller is called Gassan.
You can call them on +31 20 4059920 or email them at info@gassanschiphol.nl

please do - and if it's in, ask them if they can reserve it and I'll nip over and collect it!

Ok so reporting live from Schiphol for you.

No you cannot reserve any of the Rolex sport models. The lady explai ed that as soon as they come in there is always a buyer for them.

The non-date Sub is EUR5,454 and they have one in stock in the inter-continental departure area but can send it to any of the areas you are in.

A (poor) picture of the sport models in stock in the Schengen departure area.

How can they give you the VAT free price if you are flying within the EU? Do they assume that you will declare this when you get back to Blighty?

I am wondering how they do this too. I regularly fly to Schipol, and didn't know this - but if its 20% off a Rolex, thats a winner. Will keep an eye out next time.

Pretty sure its really just a discount. taxman still gets his share.

And it's not 20% but 16.66% of course.

I had a chat to the guy there last time I flew through and can confirm it's just discount. He said they never know what they are going to get in until it arrives and that he had lots of dealers coming in on the offchance, buying multiple watches and then flying straight back out.

I can pretty much fly for free with my current contract and so it seems a trip there and back is on the cards...

It is just a discount that matches the equitable VAT reduction.

agreed, it's a discounted price, but it's still a discount :-) and cos it's vat paid it's fine to bring it back to the UK in the box, unlike buying it from Jersey or Guernsey, where you do buy it VAT free so should officially declare it.....

I was in the Rolex shop in T5 a few days ago and was looking at the TT DJ11 with slate dial and green numerals.

If I had been flying out with the EU, I could have got it for just over £6,400. According to the salesgirl the RRP was around £7,800, so a saving at around 16-18% assuming the RRP quoted was correct.

I did ask about wether I should declare it on the way back and was told if was my decision.
