I need to get my watch over to Variomatic. What's the recommended way of shipping as it's worth more than the maximum comp on Special Delivery.

I tend to use RM Special Delivery, including with some trade batches that, combined, are WAY over the SD limit (the biggest to date was about £29k worth of assorted IWC, Omega and Rolex). That said, if anything happens then my own insurance covers the extra when I post out.

But I've never had a problem with RM Special delivery - it's tracked to the individual at every stage and they don't have lots of small-print exclusions on their cover which a lot of the other couriers do.

One thing, though:

However you send it please don't time it to arrive before the 15th (next Wednesday). We're away from tomorrow for a family funeral in Devon so there'll be no-one here to receive it and I prefer not to have them sitting round in sorting offices / distribution depots!

Hi, Variomatic. Sorry to hijack this thread, but did you get my email earlier?

If you send a watch worth more than £2500 and cover it to £2500 by RMSD you are not INSURED AT ALL. You don't just get back the £2500 towards it, you get nothing if it goes missing.

It's your call, but you will be completely uninsured.

Hence my question. I can't find any courier offering more than 2.5k cover. And whilst the drive to Anglesey would be nice, it is a long way wink
