To the slight annoyance but also amusement of the O/H, after waiting 13 years to get me to marry her, I seem to be allergic to marriage, or at least to my wedding ring.

It's 9ct rose gold and bought new this year. I'm assuming it has a small nickel content that wasn't present in older rose gold rather than being a copper allergy, as I have worn a Victorian rose gold signet ring for years with no problems.

Would it be possible to overplate the inside face of the ring only with a hypoallergenic metal leaving the outside the same colour? It is very slightly too big so a loss of I/d wouldn't be a problem.

Any helpful or unhelpful thoughts appreciated.

Tom.

Speak to Lamberts in Watford. Pretty much the best platers in the business

I can heavy rhodium plate the inside if you want but cannot guarantee the rest of the ring won't affect the finger due to contact on other edges. Nickel was banned in uk metals for reasons such as these allergies and other health concerns.

Or I can remake it in a better metal for you????

I thought nickel was banned, but my ring was bought new this January from a very reputable dealer and I have what the doc tells me is a metal allergy most likely to be nickel under it. Can it be tested for nickel content?

That said, the o/h has said she would rather I kept it and didn't wear it than had a different one. At the moment it is on a lace round my neck as that doesn't seem to give the prolonged skin contact to set off a reaction.

Eddie, how much would I be looking at to get it plated? it's a standard band 5mm wide.

Hi Mate,if you go to your local scrap dealer, see if they have a Niton gun,if they have that will tell you what the ring is made up from.
