Hopefully someone will be able to guide me on what's the best way, if worth it, to get it fixed.

Had the watch for around 2 years, and over the last few weeks, it keeps stopping, it's like it doesn't hold charge in the spring?

I've read that the movement isn't a great one, not sure how accurate that is, however, is it worth getting it repaired. It's not exactly an expensive watch, so in your opinion, is it worth it?

In the mean time, I've just ordered a new SRP313K2 smile

Seiko themselves will want around £120 upwards for an official service. A brand new SKX007 from Creation with the Japanese stamp on it is about £135 without any discount (which usually, if you sign up to them you can get 5% or more as they often have offers), a "K" model is slightly less, I might well be wrong but I think they are designated SKX007J "J" designating from Japan or SKX007K "K" designating from Korea.

The movement in my "K" up until it hit the kitchen floor was pretty damn good actually, it gained probably 2 seconds a week at the very most and took a fair bit of abuse, I've had it a good few years as well, maybe you've got unlucky with yours as on the whole I've heard they're pretty reliable.

As I know little about watches, I've read elsewhere that the movements are pretty much the same regardless of where you buy it from, or what it is designated as. I think the Japanese models have something else written on the face like "21 jewels" but again, I might be wrong.

No idea what a repair would cost you, but I'm being helped out by a great chap here on the forum with mine so if you wish I can pass on his details.

I love the SKX range, iconic looks, easy to wear and pretty tough.

Good call on the Monster, is that the "vampire" model people refer to?.

Yes, it's the monster with the "red teeth" accents etc.

As you say, for the £120 odd Seiko will prob want for a service, a new watch is prob the best bet.

If it was £50 odd, it might be worth a punt.

Thank you for your reply smile

Ps, thought "K" just meant not built in Japan, not Korea ?

To be honest I'm not sure about the designation, you're probably right as I kind of assumed it was Korea, then again my watch knowledge isn't that great smile

A repair might be cheaper. When mine gave up the ghost the local "watch repair" bloke said it needed a full service and didn't offer a repair or even an inspection, so I think it might have been his way of making a few quid by sticking it in a jiffy bag and sending it to Seiko.

I know that there's a top bloke on here that repairs watches, if you like I can pass on his details and then he can give you a quote, it might save a few quid in the long run. The other option is to perhaps ebay your broken one to offset the cost of a replacement. Working SKX's still fetch half decent money on there.

Joe - Variomatic. Say his name three times and he appears like the Candyman. hehe

Whilst youre replying to this Joe, I have another watch to add to my ridiculously large list of repairs: an SKX009 7S26 on which the stem fails to cleanly engage and disengage from the first position (day/date set). Prognosis please?

Would be interested in what Variomatic thinks it could be and what a ball park repair cost would be.

Seiko UK want £155 for a service !!

Would you mind posting where you ordered the 313K2 from? I'm looking to treat myself after a bit of a difficult work stint and I've wanted a Monster for ages, but finding the right place (or somewhere that isn't sold out) is a bit of a nightmare (purely because I'm abroad and would have to get the GF to order it for me, and she's be likely to go for an Ebay Spesh), I'd much rather go with a recommendation of someone who has the experience. Id be very grateful if you could

Aargh, thinking about it, I'd be equally happy with a 007... So, if you could also let me know which you prefer and why, I'd be even more grateful!

I had an e-mail though from Creation Watches today stating 'This week we have on sale our no.2 bestselling watch of all time. The classic Seiko Diver's 200m Japan Made SKX007J is available only for $199 for the next 3 days! And with Free Worldwide Shipping and free DHL Express 2-4 day Shipping to most countries as always!'.

I think it works out at around £132.

Hi OpulentBob,

Order mine from Creation watches as mentioned below. Was a bit dubious at first due to their location, however, ordered and delivered within 4 days by DHL with no further nasty surprises wink Very happy with the watch indeed.

The only thing, is that as Creation are not an authorised dealer of Seiko, you don't get the benefit of the Seiko 1 year warranty, however, you do get a 2 year warranty with Creation.

Out of the 2, I do prefer the Monster, it feels a much better built watch and comes with the better movement inside, £132, you can't go wrong smile

They will post world wide, so I don't think you'll have a problem where you are, unless you're in the Jungle or the Desert !! smile

Fantesticular, that's great. Thanks for that.

I think I'll have to go monster. I'm not getting any slimmer so I'll grow in to it, and my Mrs will think it cost a lot more...

Thanks for the reply, appreciated.

OP, servicing those isn't a problem and expect about half the Seiko price.

They're not "great" movements in a prestige movement sort of way but they're well designed, robust, and generally reliable. Maybe not quite up to the early Seikos that they made their reputation on but still exceptional value at the price and easily capable of outliving the owner with reasonably regular servicing.

Texaxile, yours is on test now and showing pretty good results. If it behaves overnight should be back with you for the weekend. I take it from the 2 kinks in the hairspring that someone had already looked at it after the drop? Almost looked like intentional damage to bump a quote up - bad enough to look bad but not bad enough to scrap the spring.

GC8, without seeing it it's likely it's the setting lever spring at fault. Cheap enough part but needs the dial and calendar stripped to fit it. You'd be around £30 if it didn't need anything else.
