Treat me gently, it's my first time in this sub-forum biggrin .

I have had this TAG since 1995 and worn it almost every day, apart from when I work offshore.

I cannot remember the model name or number but remember paying £500ish for it when new at Heathrow.

The bezel is worn so that you can't read the numbers and the luminous marks hardly glow anymore but the glass is un-scratched.

Now the stopwatch has broken. It started but now the stop button won't stop it. the lap/reset button still works. It still tells the time obviously, but I guess the battery life will be decimated by the extra load of the stopwatch running continuously.

So, not really knowing what I have or the value, is it worth a repair or has it reached the end of its life. £25 per year isn't a bad rate.

Thanks

Steve

Timpsons will change a battery for life so that's a cheap way of getting round it. biggrin

So, how much is your budget for a new watch?

The start of a man maths calculation. I like it.

A fancy watch is a fairly low priority at the moment. So any replacement would be £150ish.

Get yourself a nice casio g-shock. Put the TAG in a drawer and you can get it fixed when you're flush or splurge on a new fancier piece.

Variomatic would be worth a shout on this. You can track him down through his profile.

Actually, if you go to the Anglesey Watches post you will find his email address!

Get a block of wood and a hammer and givevthe offending pusher a couple of brisk taps (using the wood to protect it).

Dirt builds up under the pusher caps and stops them pressing in far enough. If that's what's happened here then a couple of taps usually compressrs it enough to operate. It's only a temporary cure but useful for diagnosis. If it works then you just need the case stripped and thrown in an ultrasonic bath or, at worst, replacement pushers - both of which are fairly painless.

Thanks.

I've been given a price of £300 for the work (full strip and ultrasonic clean etc.) including return postage, a new battery and seals and a bezel.

That seems an awful lot to me...61% of the purchase price.

Looks like I will be buying a new watch.

The current F1 Chrono costs over £1000 and is way uglier so I'd invest in getting this one sorted. I hear there's a chap on here called Variomatic who is quite good at that kind of thing.

I had good experience with a company called The Watch Doctors in Tring recently.

Very reasonably priced, as an alternative if Variomatic can't help.
