I have just had my P.O. serviced through an AD at some cost and it looks lovely.
However I don't think that the date is working at all.
Am I safe to just wind the hands through 24 hours and watch to see if it changes OK or will this harm the movement?
Are the hands and date even connected when one does this?
I don't want to make it worse (or wait until mid night again!) and have time to go back to the dealer today if required.
Help please!

Yup, should be perfectly safe to wind the hands through 24h, and as long as the mechanism is functioning the date should click over on one of the occasions the hour hand passes 12. I'm not familiar with that movement, you might find that the date will change promptly at 12 (or close enough) or it might take an hour or so to cycle through.

Does the date change manually on the second pull out crown position? If it doesn't change either through winding the hands or date then it'll need returning.

The date changes OK when the crown is turned whilst pulled out to the first stop. The second stop is the one for the hands.

So it is, oops... wobble

The mechanism should be set up so that the movement of the hands also changes the date, if it doesn't then something is definitely amiss.

OK thanks, I tried the hands and the date flipped around ok but strangely not at midnight today but at what would have been 12 noon tomorrow?
Given that it did not flip at 12 noon today I am confuse.....
I'll keep watching I think and hope I've got it back in sync. See if it changes tonight.

Sounds like it is working just fine wink.

Set the time to 6 o'clock then change the date to yesterday, then advance the hands again. If the date changes the first time the hour hand passes 12 then the watch is in the first 12h of its 24h cycle (am), keep advancing until the hour hand passes 12 again and it'll be in its 2nd 12h cycle (pm). If the date doesn't change the first time the hour hand passes 12 it's already in pm.
