Omega Seamaster RED professional & serial nos

Does anyone have any knowledge of when the Seamaster designation 'Professional' in RED on the dial was introduced?

I recall this marked an updated version along with a new designed domed logo back -I am not clear what year this was or indeed how the updated versions differed either quartz or mechanical versions.

Also the main Omega web site for checking serial nos seems not to be live - is there an alternative source for checking ?
