My Grandad's Watches
Discussion
Good evening,
Below is a picture of my late grandfathers watches. I don't know anything beyond the pictures at the mo as the watches are a few hundred miles away still.
The first is a Tissot Visodate. Im told this works. Does anyone know what year it could be? Also, any recommendations on a strap for it?
The second is a bit different. Im told it was made for him by a watch maker called Evans and Evans of Alresford. All i know is that its quartz and that it currently doesn't run
Until the 20th of December i wont be able to find anything more out. i want to wear one for my wedding in late December. im just not sure which yet.

The Visodate is the nicer of the two by a long way. I've not attempted to research it, but looking at the styling, I'd guess at early 70's.
I strongly doubt that the other watch was made by the jeweler with his name on it. More likely it was made somewhere in the East for that jeweler.
Hope that helps.

Evans and Evans of Arlesford show up as watch repairers/sellers on Google - Might be worth giving them a ring.I strongly doubt that the other watch was made by the jeweler with his name on it. More likely it was made somewhere in the East for that jeweler.

I'd be less sure they didn't at least assemble it, given its unusual appearance (also says "Swiss Made" on the dial, so something didn't come from TOO far East!).
M.
The Evans and Evans is probably an ETA 955 series movement being quartz and marked as Swiss Made at that age. Shouldn't be a problem to get working but, if you don't get hold of them until 20th Dec and you want to wear one in late Dec for your wedding then time for repair is short to say the least.
If the Tissot is working then that'd be by far your better bet for the day because any nice leather strap will suit it well enough and you should be able to get one locally over the Christmas period.

Completely and cheap too at £5 a tube. I made an old Poljot chrono look like new and I have restored 20+ Heuer and Breitling stopwatches with it.
Yep, the worst it can do is nothing and, I'd agree, it usually makes a lot of difference, even if it can't deal with really deep scratches in the crystal.M.
