Omega grey side of the moon - opinions
Discussion
Nice enough watch in general terms, but hideously overpriced – which for some people is all part of many watches charm.
If you like it, aren’t worried about residual value, then fire away.
The only thing to be fully aware of is when it comes time to service, you’ll have nowhere to turn to other than Omega’s own service centres, and God only knows what price they may charge at that stage – about 5-7 years from now.

Nice watch but overpriced. Its twice the price of a standard speedmaster. A ceramic case, platinum dial has brownie points but offers nothing in reality. The co axial is a liability in long term serviceability and long term accuracy. I think Daniels designed the coaxial with a slow beat rate to reduce wear and omega insisted on a high beat rate for 'marketing soul'. The end result was something that wasn't as designed and doesn't have any advantage.

Why only Omega Service Centre? Once it's out of warranty surely a good indie can look after it?And this could be the typical outcome of such action:

Fine for strip, clean, oil, rebuild, but not if parts need to be replaced. Omega (SWATCH Group in general) are ceasing to supply parts to anyone like Cousins, so that they and their approved service centres are the only places where repairs can be dealt with.

Wow 2 instances on a watch forum, over the thousands of happy customers, not exactly typical is it?And this could be the typical outcome of such action:

Swatch Group customer service is well known for being a bit pants. My other half had issues with her TAG when it went back (under warranty), my boss had to send his back 3 times before they got it right at which point he sold it and vowed never to buy another.
I sent my TAG back years ago and got it back and was pleased with it but the actual rate of satisfied customers amongst people I actually know is less than 50%.

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f2/omega-co-axial-movement-2500-8500-bashed-738254.htmlArticle quoted and a long discussion. I know of several people with coaxial not maintaining Cosh at year 3.Even if its as good as something like a calibre 1120 can't see any advantage to coaxial other than writing it on the dial-master coaxial and doubling their prices which is what they did.
Many thanks for all the replies. I've certainly learnt a lot and my feeling that nice as it is in my eyes it does seem overpriced probably by a couple of thousand to me.
Back to my thoughts about what next. I've got a dssd and black/blue gmt as well as a few breitlings. Daytona perhaps?
Or look for a discount on the omega?

I've got a Dark Side of the Moon. Had it for 1.5 Years and accuracy is spot on so far.
Go for the Omega if you like it, but do as I did and buy it from a dealer in Europe.
You'd be nuts paying retail in UK, as I agree with others about them being overpriced.
I saved £2500 on mine, although the Euro rate was better back then.
The talk above regarding the movement may have applied years ago.. but that isn't the movement in my watch.
