I'd like to buy her a watch for her 40th coming up in June. Budget would be around £2-£2.5k. She's not a fan of small and dainty watches, rather slightly larger but not mans size, with some sparkly bits! I've never purchased anyway near this price point before, and due to the amount I'm thinking of spending I'll probably choose a few options and let her have the final say, so any suggestions or a point in the right direction is appreciated. Thanks

Choosing a nice watch which suits you wife's wrist really involves her trying on a wide variety on styles and designs IMO.

It can be hard to predict which style will best based on just pictures.

If you can get to somewhere like Harrods, they have many brands in one location.

Once you have viewed as wide a variety as possible, I think you will find one or two which you both think look the nicest. Then you can focus on choosing which you want to buy, and ensuring you pay the right price etc.

rolex midsize depreciate a lot! which means you can get a lightly used beautiful looking watch for not a huge chunk of money.

I would also suggest 36mm size. Perhaps a nice used 36mm Omega SMP? I like Prince William's as it happens. A present from his late Mother.

Curious thing fashion isn't it? 36mm is 1mm larger than my 1990s JLC Master Chronograph which was a gentleman's watch less than 20 years ago. biglaugh

Just been through something similar-good idea to get her involved-I would have bought completely the wrong watch if it was down to me. Going 'sparkly' adds quite a bit to the cost of the watch so there may have to be some compromise. My wife ended up with a Cartier which generally come in 3 sizes so you should be able to find something there and with a bit of judicious buying (thank you Dom Hackett) you will be able to get something nice. We also looked at the Omega Constellation which comes in lots of finishes but I'm not sure about sizes. If you can get to somewhere like Watches of Switzerland in Regent Street they have a big range to browse through.
