I know of several for sale in the $20,000 range - simple supply and demand, and if people want to pay such a huge mark up, then more fool them.

What I find amusing though, is that all of a sudden the 'regular' stainless daytonas which were apparently unobtanium, have now appeared in lots of places.
I even saw one on display and available in an AD last week

basic economics... demand/supply, only worth what someone will pay etc.

Seems like you just can't get a straight answer of position on the waiting list or how many peices each dealer will get a year.

A Rolex AD in Cardiff told me on Saturday they could expect 3 of the new ceramic SS Daytonas in a year compared to 4 for the previous model.

Thats because Rolex dont even tell the dealers anything! Keeps up the hype thus demand and the brand name out there?

Holy Moly! If they're going for almost double then I think I'll need to start trading in them! hehe I should be able to get a couple by Christmas.

I just called both our Rolex shops (part of same franchise) - one said Late July to September delivery, the other said 2 weeks. Nice to see they've got their stories straight.

Are these anticipated delivery times to the store/ first person on their list or to you if you paid a deposit today?

If you think the premium for the new S/S Daytona is bonkers, I just got an email from Blowers offering the new Air King (green logo/second hand) for £21,000!! eek

First delivery. Although they tend to get more than European shops, when I got my Daytona from them they got 3-4 new Daytonas every 10 days.

Because people are willing to pay that much.

It's expensive, it must be good.

not sure why it's so hard to work out. Demand has far outstripped supply, so the price has gone up. There are sufficient people willing to pay a premium to shift the units currently or imminently available.

Demand cant be that great if there is one in a shop window.

You realise this isn't my rule, right? So if you see a 911R up for 3x the original buy price sat in Romans window, you'd assume that because you've see that one, no-one wants them?

That would suggest that demand isnt as high as the people selling them are suggesting by the price tag

If i want a BLRO... i can buy one in watford. So that to me doesnt suggest they are hard to come by or in great demand. Now... if i want a Dornbluth its a what? 1-2year wait?

demand affects price, price affects demand. The natural tendency is to reach equilibrium where both are optimally balanced. If they're still flying off the shelves then the price will keep on going up. I'm going to stop explaining this now
