Rolex GMT 2 - value ??
Discussion
Selling my Rolex - sent the details to a trader to see what he comes back with.
However with recent Euro/pound moves etc, I have lost all touch on what I should expect - any ideas ??
I'm thinking 70% of retail ?? (but can not settle on what retail might be)
1998 - worn daily for 15 years (on the shelf for the last 2) - so loads of wear / age related fine marks/ scratches - red part of the bezel is a bit sun bleached.
all boxes/ tags, etc
(Black/ Red Bezel)
and for you serial geeks ...hoping you will tell me its an ultra rare year ...with an extra super movement and it's worth a gazillion

I'd say between 40 and 60 per cent of retail depending on their stock levels of similar watches and whether they have a buyer lined up.
I'd say for an older watch that isn't particularly difficult to get gold of it will sit in stock for a while so towards 50.

Thanks - 50% of used selling price ??,
Watch finders has a 1998 for sale (space colour and boxes etc) at £5,950 - do you think they will only offer £2,975 for mine ?? and expect a 100% mark up (50% margin on their selling price ??)
I was hoping they worked on 30% margin (50% mark up) and therefore offer C£4k
lets see what they come back - if it as you suggest ebay may be the best route
Do you have a local independent jeweller that has secondhand watches in the window? See if they sell on commission. You'll get a better price than for a straight purchase, but will obviously have to wait until a customer buys it.
My local jeweller works on a 20% cut I believe. Seems to work well, as they don't sell expensive new watches, just a dozen or so used Rolex, Breitling, Omega, etc.

The raw purchase price won't be what the watch ends up owing them by the time they've finished.
I sold my Rolex Sub to Watchfinder for 3 grand , i paid 3.5 grand for it.
It was about the same age as yours.
I would have thought you may get around 4 plus grand on Ebay. You say the bezel is sun bleached , collectors get all moist over patina these days.

If its original nick then you could get a collector paying more.
