Apologies for creating another thread on a similar topic, but keeping all opinions in the one place will be helpful.

I've been looking for a new watch to wear on a daily basis, the Tudor Black Bay was at the top of the list (probably the 'dark' version) but then I saw the IWC Pilot's watch on Dominic's website (IW377701) and I decided that if I could cope with that watch at 43mm (I haven't arranged to see it yet, so i might still conclude that it's too big for my wrist), I should also consider a Tudor Pelagos at 42mm (which I'd previously discounted because of its size, although I've not yet tried one on).

So which of the above would you choose and why? Residual value isn't high on my requirements.

The only other watch under consideration is a Rolex Sub - roughly twice the price!

FWIW my current 'collection' consists of a Breitling Montbrilliant and an IWC Portugieser Chronograph (plus my current daily watch which would be relegated to emergency / holiday / garden duty only).

All thoughts gratefully received!

I have 2 of the 3 on your list: a Pelagos and an IWC.

If you already have an IWC, go for one of the Tudors unless you fancy building up a little IWC collection over time?

I'm more focussed on having a range of watches I like, rather than necessarily building up a 'collection' or owning a range of different brands. Having said that, at the back of my mind is the fact that I already have an IWC but don't own a Tudor!

I know what you mean. I buy based on design rather than brand. I've ended up with two Omegas but that's more down to happenstance than intent.

Oh bugger. If I allow the 43mm IWC into the equation, then I should really consider the 43mm Black Bay Bronze...

Bit of a dull reply but I think you will have to try some on and see how they look and feel, an overly big watch on a smaller wrist looks a bit like someone is trying too hard to me but each to their own. The bronze is an interesting colour, not sure if it would look a bit odd with some clothes though?

I agree with all 3 of your points. I just wanted the views from the 'experts' on here to see if there were some extra things to consider that I'd not thought about.

I love the look of the pelagos, but after trying one on decided against it purely on the weight.

Just didn't feel right to me.

Presumably too light, as it's titanium?

Yes, it just felt odd Sid, nothing wrong in that and may work for others, but not right for me.

We bought a Citizen Ecodrive for my father-in-law which was Titanium and I thought exactly the same thing - it felt cheap / plasticky to me. that will likely out me off the Pelagos.

I wear a Pelagos most days and for me it is hands down one of the most comfortable watches I've had. It's light but not "cheap" light and I've long ago dismissed the notion that a heavy watch means a quality watch. It doesn't, it just means it can be uncomfortable. The biggest compliment I can pay the Pelagos is that I forget that I'm wearing it, in a good way. The adjustable clasp is excellent for a daily watch with a bracelet.

For balance I've previously owned an IWC 3717 and the bracelet on that is one of the nicest out there, very comfortable. There was no micro adjustment but I was lucky to find a good fit. Can't remember why I sold it in the end (I've owned one twice) but I do like that IWC is quite under the radar for most people.

Of course. I'll try one and see how it feels. However, I certainly didn't like the feel of the Citizen (although that clearly is a massively cheaper watch).

I have had the Tudors and the iwc , sold them all, so no help I would not buy any of them :-)
They all feel a bit cheap for the money imo.

Try them all on the iwc gives a big real estate feel, i.e. Too big.
Rolex stay at 40mm for a reason :-)
Tudor case feel very cheap cannot work out why they are so expensive !

I tend to buy Rolex and Omega with a classic Heur and a Monaco in the collection, but have tried and sold 7 or 8 before coming to rest at 6.

Best watch i.e. The one I pick up is a ceramic SMP with the oem rubber strap. Such a great watch, well made, keeps amazing time, looks the bomb with jeans on the rubber, not in your face like a Rolex and feels a level above IWC and Tudor and it's cheaper !

I don't get the trend with bigger watches or most new ones being thick as a book !

Last nice iwc was a basic mk xvi imo

The date on that IWC is a huge turn off to me, the previous version is much nicer IMHO.

You prefer the display with 3 dates in, rather than the single date? I'm not sure I agree!

Thanks for everyone's input into my decision.

I visited my local dealer to 'look' at some watches and I appear to have come home with a Tudor Pelagos (Black), an Omega Semaster Diver in Blue, and a Tudor Clair de Rose for my wife.

Not sure how that happened...
