Why do Rolex types go ga-ga for red text?

I get that they're vintage models but it seems odd to me.

Is it because nothing else changed in decades, and therefore the minutiae count as special?

This is exactly right for Rolex watches with red text, particularly double lines of red text

Having said that...................single lines of black text on a white background are even more rare and priced accordingly

I believe the red text Subs were just a wee bit higher in price than your standard Sub. Now though they are worth far far more.

Along with the Paul Newman Dayona's , Milsubs , Comex and so on.

What I meant is another fking thread where someone asks the fundamentally stupid question of "how can item X possibly be worth value Y??? It cannot be worth that much!" optionally, citing reason Z, usually referring to past values or something pointless. You are really asking that, by asking why red letter watches fetch so much money, because you don't get it. I don't get it either, other than they look nice and are probably rarer. That is probably 80% of the reason, with the other 20% being beard stuff.

They are worth the money that the fetch for the simple reason that someone will pay it. Fans, collectors and investors like them... values on desirable items go up and down due to a number of factors. Values are up currently because interest rates are st. Look at the classic car market. It will all go pop and drop down again soon. Up and down. Forever.

So it's just a decorative variation in older dials? I'm not a Rolex guy and I thought the colour went with a different movement/case shape or whatever.

Obviously, rarity is a plenty good enough reason to increase in value (like mis-printed stamps or whatever). Are there options on modern watches to change the colours of bits and pieces to make it more rare?
