Elem watch - anyone know anything about them?
Discussion
I inherited this watch from my Dad recently and wondered if anyone knows anything about them - I know it is one Dad had for as long as I can remember, not one he wore a lot and I do remember it being one he would wear when doing the sort of jobs that could damage a watch so he obviously didn't worry too much about it. I can't find much online about them, and certainly nothing like this one. There are some numbers on the back which don't mean much, along with saying it is stainless steel. I've no idea when it was last worn but I wound it up this morning and have worn it all day and it has kept good time.
Just to add, I guess it isn't worth much and I'm not looking to sell it anyway, but if by chance it happens to be valuable I had better get it insured I guess!
It is Swiss - try searching for Milex-Elem or Milex rather than just Elem.
I plagiarised this from Watchuseek:
MILEX had offices world wide, including Cairo, Buenos Aires, Havana, Malta and Sydney
The company was founded 1889 as the 'Climax Watch Company' of Achille Hirsch, importing watches into NY.
In 1915 was listed in Bienne, with an advert as ELEM Watch Co.
1919 listed as headquarters in Geneva
1920 listed for cylinder watches and thin watches
1925 advertisements for ELEM and MARCHAND-MONNIER
1940s exhibited at Basle
Company still listed in 1979
