Rolex Batman. Still going for overs, long waiting list?
Discussion
Currently in the Bahamas and the hotel has a Rolex AD in the lobby. They have a BLNR in store and are offering 5% discount which works out at around £6.25k. I like the watch but probably wouldn't wear it so would be looking to flip it. Question is do these still command a premium? I've read a few threads about them become more readily available and the ship may have sailed.

How do UK Customs greet travellers from the Bahamas? Consider this too.Cheers

It is incredible that these still have waiting lists, I bought mine when they first came out and have worn it quite a lot. It started losing time so it has just been back for a service £490!
However it is now a brand new watch and I cannot bring myself to wear it, if they are 7K that is interesting.
I remember when Submariners were £2700!

I think for a polished case you will get less. However it is now a brand new watch and I cannot bring myself to wear it, if they are 7K that is interesting.

My first GMT II was £2800 and the bi-metal I replaced it with was £4800. Both lost time so I really struggle to see the value in them at £6500. My Planet Ocean is far more accurate and less shouty but I haven't worn it in 12 months as I prefer wearing either my g shock or my fenix. However it is now a brand new watch and I cannot bring myself to wear it, if they are 7K that is interesting.

Really? Even though it was done at Rolex? That is interesting. I should have sold it losing time, but that is not a nice way to behave! I will probably wear it.
I would think so yes - the price for a mint unworn/barely worn one would be higher than a polished one. You can get them serviced without having them polished.detee said:

That's pretty unfortunate timing - in July 2015 Rolex announced that all Oyster models sold from ADs after 1st July 2015 would get the increased 5-year warranty, whereas watches already sold before then, during the two years prior i.e. between 1st July 2013 and 30th June 2015 got an extra year added on to their 2-year warranty, bringing it up to 3 years.I'm guessing that as the BLNR was released at Basel in April 2013, and probably didn't make it into stores for a while later, that you just missed out, or else if you did get the 3-year warranty, it only expired 12 months ago - either way, that's rotten luck (unless of course the damage was done by some cause not covered by the warranty).
On the bright side, I wouldn't worry too much about the recent Rolex polish affecting value - whilst it's certainly true that an unpolished version in decent nick is generally preferable, when people talk about being 'over polished' and a consequent diminution of value, they are usually concerning models from decades ago which have had a polishing going-over on several occasions, or models given an over-enthusiastic or amateur polishing - either can remove too much metal, thinning the lugs and softening crisp edges. Rolex are usually pretty gentle & expert when they do their polishing in-house, and on a 3/4 year-old watch, I doubt there was much need to polish away too much metal. In any event, the newer 'maxi case' models with their thicker lugs can better withstand a bit more thinning and don't have the outer lug-holes (which can take on a wider 'bowl' shape when over-polished). If Rolex have done a decent job the polish will be barely noticeable to any buyer, and they will more probably appreciate the pristine look for a second-hand watch. There are over-polishing horror stories of course, but that's rare enough from Rolex themselves after a first-time polishing.

For several years, a 16610 was £2350. That seems about right to me, recently Rolex prices have become rather silly. I have owned several over the years, it seemed a sensible enough way to have about £2000 tied up, but now that figure has tripled, that’s no longer the case, at least for me.The watch I wear now was less than £800 and seems at least as well made as any of the Rolexes I owned and is wearing better too.
