What's the general consensus on JLC?

I am quite tempted by a JLC Geo Master Comp with the brown strap and seem reasonable value for what I've always thought a brand as strong as Rolex, Panerai, AP etc.

Are they worth the money?

I think you'll find that the love, or at the very least respect, for JLC in these parts is strong. A bit of Googling around 'why isn't JLC considered one of the Big Three watchmakers' will unearth many a rant on JLC's merits.

Great value for money in my opinion. Whilst I haven't checked myself, I understand the drop in value of the pound has seen the AD prices head northwards.

I have a JLC Master Geographic and am very happy with it.

I can also highly recommend DomH on here to source it for you as he got a very worthwhile discount off list price.

I've been wearing a JLC Master Compressor Dualmatic as my daily for the last 6 years. Can't fault it. Discreet, reliable, works with a suit and casualwear and known only to the cognoscenti unlike some of the more obvious brands.

I am lucky enough to have SS sports offerings from both JLC and Rolex.

I love them both for different reasons, but quality wise there's only one winner and its the JLC it feels a far superior product.

If it is any consequence, I have heard many time that JLC is Patek quality at Rolex prices.

I have just acquired a JLC Grande Reverso Dou Date and think it's totally marvellous in terms of coolness, quality and accuracy. Each to their own.

Thanks everyone - good to see the love!

I have a SS GMT2 so nice to hear of the feedback there. Actually bought it off Dom H so completely agree with him being recommended - great guy.

Thanks All smile

I have a Reverso Duo night and day and a 60's Memovox.
They are stunning. Great quality of design and implementation. The workmanship is faultless. As has already been said they are also nicely understated - not as brashly recognised as their rivals.

Thumbs up from me.

Couldn't agree more! I bought Mrs C a Reverso Lady (manual wind version) a couple of years ago. She was delighted - and I liked it so much that I recently treated myself to a Reverso Ultra Thin Duoface. Just beautifully made, subtle and elegant.

Lovely watches.

Generally big depreciation if bought new.

Expensive to service and it takes months to get the watch back.

I concur with Andy's comments.

I've a JLC Master Chronograph. It feels much less robust than a Rolex. It broke twice within the first few months of ownership. JLC fixed it once under warranty then tried to charge me £950 to fix it a month later. I kicked up a huge fuss on watch u seek and they eventually fixed it under warranty. It took months.

The whole experience put me off the brand (well Richemont in reality), which is a shame, as they do make lovely watches with a great heritage at very appealing price points.

You'll also struggle to find a JLC thread discussing waiting lists, AD's, tags/stickers & 0% finance... wink

I remember that thread…cough, cough…I’m surprised you still decided to keep it after they repaired it again.

Indeed, but I'm a sucker for a chronograph and the trade in value was not good...

In fact, I've just ordered a new strap for it from Jean Rousseau, in dark blue, hopping it will revitalise my original love for it.

I have always admired JLC as a brand and would love to one day get a reverso or masterthin as a daily.

Its the Atmos clocks though that i really appreciate and am lucky to have one of the first ATMOS 568's in the UK. A real marvel

I purchased a Reverso a good few years ago with some money that my gran left me. Whilst I no longer wear it as my daily watch and only keep it as a dress watch, I always have to give the face a little flick over and admire the machining. Love them, they are most definitely a sublime, understated watch .. and they don't smell of TCP, which is the other thing that reminds me of my gran.
