Rolex submariner
Discussion
First post in this section, here goes...
I have a Tag F1 (automatic) that I bought myself as a graduation present and my first 'expensive' watch, certainly felt like it at the time. I've always appreciated watches and my favourite has always been the rolex submariner, or at least that design. Now, a few years after buying the Tag and wearing it daily, I'm in the position to possibly buy a submariner, with my parents offering to contribute as an xmas gift.
But, a quick look through here shows posts of waiting lists and supply problems. Am I unfortunate enough to want a model I'm going to struggle to get hold of? I'd prefer to buy brand new for cash from an AD. I'd probably also prefer a no date model.
My nearest Rolex AD is about 30 miles away, so if this is going to be a non starter I'd rather not waste the time trawling around places to be told I can't have one!
I'm also struggling to find pricing info, from what I can find it seems the model I'm after is around £5.5-6.5k, unless I've got this wrong and I'm way out? If it's all going to be too difficult to sort in the relatively short term I'll hang on for a while, as I'm certainly not desperate and for something like this the buying process should also be enjoyable shouldn't it?!

After some calling around, unfortunately it seems that the facts are the same as I read in previous threads. 12-18 month waiting list which I'd be at the bottom of or buy one secondhand for overs.
I wonder if there's more of them in Geneva or other cities? I could make a weekend break of going to buy/collect it then - would certainly make it more memorable!

Pricing is on the Rolex website.
You will not manage to negotiate a discount at the moment on that model.
There is a massive shortage of most stainless steel models in the UK at the moment (Daytona and new Skydweller 10 year waiting lists)
Sub waiting lists seem to be up to a few years depending on model, but the black/no date is probably one of the easiest to get hold of
However I would be surprised if you manage to get one within 3 to 6 months!

When I was looking at getting a new SubC Date in July I found one for sale at a local-ish AD in my first phone call, another local AD said I could have next month's. Is the No Date more tricky to find?
How many Ads have you called?
No dates are probably slightly easier to get hold of as are bi metal but things have changed at the UK ADs since July (and from my reading of other forums worldwide)How many Ads have you called?
The waiting lists are a bit of a farce (in some cases) in my opinion.
I have a no-date sub, and was quoted 12 months plus from WoS in B'ham, but when I waddled down the road to Goldsmith's in the Bullring, I was told to expect a wait of about 6 weeks, but they gave me a call after about 6 days - and was on my wrist that afternoon.
I'm well aware that SOME of the waiting lists are very hefty at the moment (currently waiting my turn on a Hulk), but I feel like the waiting lists have become elongated because of the imminent price rise, and the common speculation held by Joe Public that Rolex is withholding stock until the change has been implemented.
Of course, someone will be along to berate my opinion, I'm sure. But long story short, 12 months may end up being 1 week, although perhaps I'm the exception to the rule...

A No date Sub, 114060,
should be £5,450 from an AD, and although some stores will have more watches through them than others the wait really shouldn't be that long, although getting it for Christmas morning might be a long shot, just play the long game, go in, sign up, pay a deposit if they want one and then enjoy the wait, and the anticipation of 'the call' it'll be sooner than they probably quote and I think adds a little to the whole ownership game.

What he said! I was so chuffed to get mine I drove into the centre of brum at rush hour, then I was the happiest person stuck in traffic going home. Shrimpvende said:

I walked into the shop in Geneva Airport, and bought a Daytona from stock a few years back, and a submariner a year later.I wonder if there's more of them in Geneva or other cities? I could make a weekend break of going to buy/collect it then - would certainly make it more memorable!
After buying those, they were willing to get me a ceramic Daytona relatively quickly, so do seem to do better than I’ve found the shops in the UK can.
Similar situation as the OP even down to the same current watch.
Looking to buy a SS, black face with date for my wedding in Sept 18.
I spoke to an AD as I was passing through Westfield and was quoted three months.
I guess my only query to where to buy. If there’s no discounts to be had, why pick one AD over the other? I guess I’d look to place a deposit in the Spring.
