Please may I scratch your brains for some advice and input.

I am very, very close on going to an authorised dealer and putting my name on the waiting list, I love watches but never spent more than £ 1200 on one.

Am I doing the right thing?, I love the look of this watch and the brand, I will be buying to wear and not bothered too much if it does not go up in value. Is there any deals or negotiations to be had? Is it worth buying on interest free?

I would love to hear your advice either positive or not as I am nervous about spending so much money, I think I need convincing to be honest.

I also have just discounted the Omega Speedmaster Dark side of the moon but still keep looking at them, but I am sure the Rolex is the better looking watch.

I used to be indecisive but Im not sure now !!!

Have you tried one on?

I fancied one so tried one on and it was just too big for me. I’m sure I would have kept knocking it on stuff. Lovely looking watch though.

That was when they could be bought for sensible money too!

As rog says, you really need to try one on. I'll lay my cards on the table and say I absolutely adore them-especially the engineering that goes into making one what it is.

But as a piece of jewellery, they are too high for my liking to wear daily and the ring lock system that I admire so much adds both height and bulk to the rehaut that simply doesn't make the dial look into proportion to the case size.

A bit like a Veyron for me, I could sit and go over the details of one in a garage for hours on end and be amazed at it, but there's no way I would drive one into work every day even if I could afford one. As much as I admire it, I don't think it's styling appeals to me either.

As for if it's the right time to buy, if you're buying new and don't ever plan to sell then who cares? I can't ever see Rolex dropping prices. Second hand is a different matter as I personally think we're in a bubble that isn't far off popping and the second half of 2018 could see some major jitters across all markets.

But none this matters if you love it and want a new one. Should you get one, I'll be jealous and hope you enjoy it for years to come-they're very special watches smile

I had a regular one for 3 years and I never felt right with it, tried it on various straps on desperation but in the end I sold it, I was lucky not to have paid full price in 2013 so the loss wasn't too bad, at least you won't have that to think about it you decide that it's not for you!

Try a regular one on for as long as possible then think about the fact that it will probably never get under a shirt cuff, will look like a Rolex Deepsea from 3 miles away if you wear it with a T shirt and before you buy it and spot it after, take a look at how disproportionately narrow the bracelelt is compared the the watch case!

I have one, picked it up earlier this year after being on a wait list at the local goldsmiths for near enough 3 years......

maybe i was just unlucky being out of the country whenever they got one in? i know normal black faces can be had fairly quick but the blue dial is the reason i went for one.

put it this way - you know its there, my sub / daytona just blend in on my wrist, with the Deep you can feel it all the time.. if you are a smaller person it might be too much watch to wear daily?

I wouldn't say i have any problems with catching it on things. i've been keeping it for best lately as the sub is in for service and the daytona could do with one... its a bit battered due to wearing it for work

This is a macro i took when i first got it...

I have giant wrists.

My Deepsea looks just perfect.

A datejust etc looks like a child's watch on me.

All about proportions.

I had the vanilla one. Never really enjoyed wearing it. Sold it. Don’t miss it in the slightest.

The DBlue is the daddy. The King of Rolex Professional series. Rumours say it may cease production soon.

Here's mine paying a tribute...

Oh cr4p !, now you have me worried about the size of the watch, will get to a AD and see if my wrist can cope with it, want to wear it as a daily so it needs to be comfy.

Me neither, wish I hadn't kept mine so long!

The other thing is that it makes all your other watches feel tiny so swapping between watches becomes a battle of everything feeling too big or too small!

Rolex definitely need to make a bigger bracelet for it. Something more proportioned to the depth and weight of the watch.

If you remove the divers extension link, it wears a lot more comfortably.

Removing the divers extension link and by using the superb micro adjustment bracelet it’s a very comfortable watch.
I wore one daily for 5 years.

stick your name down on it, youve got likely years to think about it before they call you!! Buy the black one, wear it and trade up to the DBlue when/if you find one as its around 3-4k more expensive on the secondary market.

Ive got a black DSSD and as a holiday watch kinda thing it works great (sometimes on rubberb). Wouldnt wear it with a suit, or for work normally. Have a BLNR for that which blends in much better given the smaller girth.

The DSSD has the most amazing bracelet. Better than any other Rolex. It really is good.

It does but as mikeh501 says, you then lose the lovely bracelet.

Please don't take this the wrong way OP...

You've never spent more than £1200 on a watch and want people you've never met to tell you if you should spend £10k on a watch you've never worn...

If you're serious, find one for sale (probably used), decide if you want it, and if the answer is 'yes', either buy it, or get your name on a waiting list and hope for the best.

If you do eventually get one and decide it's not for you, then you'll probably lose very little or make a profit.

And as already said - they're a big watch!
