Something for the Wifey
Discussion
Had a bit of a setback a fortnight ago when my wife was made redundant. Through a stroke of luck she has managed to secure an almost identical job with a competitor yesterday so I was wanting to buy her something nice to say well done.
She likes designer bags of which she has a few (LV, Gucci, Chanel, Mulberry) and has wanted a nice watch for a while so it really needs to be a brand she would recognise which probably limits it to Cartier, Rolex etc.
Budget is around £5k and have no issues with it being pre-owned.
Looking for some ideas before i just go for something like a Grape Dial Rolex Oyster.
An alternative would be to give her one of my watches and buy myself something but that is kind of selfish haha!

Some good suggestions there but I would add that taking her shopping (you need an AD with a decent range) and asking her to pick out what she likes might give you a better result.
Many moons ago, close to our first wedding anniversary, we were out shopping. Back then I had a couple of watches. As usual, I would wander past the watch shops and check out what was in the window. This time, however, I had a plan, pointing out nice ladies' watches which focused her attention. She pointed out a Rolex Lady Oyster with a blue dial that she thought was lovely. I suggested we go in and have a look. She tried it on. I casually suggested it might make a nice first anniversary present. The sales assistant beamed. Mrs Weasel beamed. She still loves it to this day.
Bottom line is: she will realise the significance and the value of your gesture. Let her make the decision on the item.

Cartier always looks classy on a lady, but ideally a rectangular / square design.

Bloody hell, £5k. I spent ten quid on a plastic ICE watch for my old woman, and thought I was being generous. The 36mm Grape Dial looks nice on a lady.. Also comes in a champagne-esque colour called "White Grape" and the Green dialled 34mm version is lovely too.
Outside of Rolex and a bit daintier how about the Cartier Ballon Bleu.. as worn by Kate Middleton. Comes in various sizes / metals
Always liked the Ballon Blue on a female, remember valuing one years ago for someone when I worked in a pawnbrokers, she had aftermarket diamonds added to the bezel and bracelet which cost about 3x the amount the watch did, wasn’t happy there was little to no residuals in the diamonds.Outside of Rolex and a bit daintier how about the Cartier Ballon Bleu.. as worn by Kate Middleton. Seen a Pasha at auction last week but couldn’t make the viewings and always sceptical about buying a watch if I’ve not handled it or am happy with it’s provenance.

I'd have thought with your budget you don't need to go second hand for Cartier. A discount on a new one should be possible.
If you wanted something a little left field, you can try the Chanel J12. Looks nice in white ceramic - you have the choice about whether to have a diamond set bezel if you wanted more bling. It is also the model Fiona Bruce wears and I always think it looks a striking ladies watch if you wanted a fairly contemporary design and were bored of Rolex.
If she likes LV bags how about an LV watch?
I got the Mrs an LV Smart watch for Xmas.
They are genuinely good watches. I was really very impressed with it when I bought it, was expecting MK type rubbish but would say the finish etc is more Omega than MK.
Also they do lots of straps so she can bag match (great for birthdays, brownie points etc lol.)

I do genuinely like the idea of this but this is possibly a bigger purchase for me that would be for you, I did buy the wife an LV neverfull for Xmas last year right enough.I got the Mrs an LV Smart watch for Xmas.

Looking for something that will last the test of time. I bought my sea-dweller in 2003 when I was 21 to celebrate getting my first management position at what was about 25% of my salary at the time and it’s still something I wear more days that not. Looking for something of that ilk, I feel the smart watch has a limited lifespan.

I get that, I got her a Cartier a few years back for a “big” birthday... that she never wears.Looking for something that will last the test of time. The LV non smart watches are really nice, especially if it’s a brand she likes. I think most have the strap change ability

More of an "everyday" looking Cartier. Big at 39mm for a lady but nice and slim..

The Santos range are lovely too.. more of the classic look

Again it's more of a man's watch but to me this would be great on a lady..
