Morning all ,not uncommon Q with a bit of twist. We were burgled - had to accept a voucher from ErnestJones for £3k ( or take a small cash offer) to replace some jewellery. We cannot replace through them - using someone else .
So we have a voucher - Q what watch would you buy and most likely resell immediately. I’ll add £2-£4K to it so around £6k
What brand/model is best for imm resale . EJs choice limited TBH -Brietling , Raymond Weil
Thoughts ?’
Thanks

I would have thought Omega would be the easiest to resell and not lose that much, but you'll still lose a fair bit, especially if you want to sell very quickly

I think you’ll find that the smaller cash offer would have yielded a better return than trying to sell anything you’ve bought at full retail price from Ernest Jones

I certainly wouldn’t be adding any more money, as you’ll just make a loss on that as well

Shame they don't sell Rolex Sports watches

It might be better selling the voucher - EJ vouchers on ebay seems to sell for between 70% and 80% of face value.

Thanks the cash offer was 40%!!
I’ll have a look on eBay
What sort of drop are you looking at from new
I’m drawn toBrietling as I might end up keeping it and have an Omega albeit an older one that was ‘only’ around £1500 12 years ago.
So slightly diff Q what Brietling model for £6k is ‘best’-both keeper and long term value

Either sell the voucher for £2700 or if that doesn't work due to trust, you could offer to buy something for someone with a 10% discount. You go with them, use the voucher and they give you £2700?

So

I am not that up to speed with modern home insurance claims. But I would have thought that, if you cannot replace the items using the vouchers provided, the insurer should be providing something else. The point of insurance is, after all, so that you can replace items that are no longer in your possession.

When we were burgled they tried the same thing. They get a deal with EJ but it will not be 40% off for sure. I told them I would accept a lesser offer than the voucher but not what they wanted. After a lot of emails eventually I got 10% taken off then did better deals in cash.

It's not out until the Summer but maybe get on their waiting list for the Tudor Black Bay GMT? It is likely to be in demand after launch and should be relatively easy to flip.
