Got the call from Harrods about the Tudor Black Bay Harrods edition.

I can’t get to London for a few weeks so they’ve asked me to do a bank transfer as you can’t pay for Rolex/Tudor over the phone by card.

Is this correct? I’m sure it’s all above board but just thought I’d check

Odd.

The Harrods website says:

How can I pay?
We accept the following payment methods online:

Visa
Visa Debit/Delta
MasterCard
JCB
Maestro UK and International
American Express
PayPal
Alipay
China UnionPay
Harrods Gift Card

I am in London most days and could pick it up for you if that would help?

Could you set up an account with Harrods and pay that way? I'd be anxious about making a bank transfer.

Their reasoning is that you can’t pay for a Rolex/Tudor online and so you can’t pay for one over the phone by card, I think the transfer is a kind of deposit. Below is from the first email they sent:

We are pleased to inform you that we now have a Tudor Black Bay, Harrods Edition available for your purchase.

Due to the high demand of this watch, we adopt a 7 day (inclusive of weekends) collection and payment timeframe. Please may you confirm receipt of this email and understanding of this policy within 48 hours.

If you are not able to visit store within 7 days of this email, please do let us know, and we can then arrange for a bank transfer of £2,630.00 to secure a piece under your name.
Please note that the bank transfer will not secure this as a set price should the piece undergo any price adjustments in the future.

Fair enough but they want you to pay for it in full but charge you more if the price increases before you collect it?

It’s legit. A few members of TZ-UK have done this.

I think technically you haven’t purchased it until you collect it so that’s why that rule applies.

But Harrods HAVE received it AND will have paid for it, why should you have to stump up more money if Rolex increase their prices

It's a watch in high demand. Their rules. If the price rises, so be it. There will be another buyer out there.
