Help with Grandfathers Tudor Royal - just discovered it!
Discussion
Whilst helping my mum move some stuff she opened a box of my Grandfathers things, he's sadly been dead almost 30 years, but in this box was a Rolex box container this watch, its a Tudor Royal Oyster - bit battered but fantastic - it even kept good time for a few days when i wore it as well!
I took it to a watch and jewellery specialist that i sort of know and they sent it away to their restorers -
Currently they want £350 to service / restore it / new glass etc and £60 to value it!
My argument is that with out knowing what its worth either in this condition or fully restored i don't know if its worth restoring! there are no plans to sell it - i love my watches and particularly this one! (my dad apparently never did anything with it as he reckoned it was a fake....)
Can anyone give me a ball park figure or even date it? i'm thinking 1950's?
Any help much appreciated

I think it’s older than that? The 1950s ones had different batons.
The triangular shaped ones are possibly older but looking at old models the bracelet looks 50s-60s
There should be serial numbers on the back of the case that will help.
What a fantastic thing to find!

It is a 7904.
Polywatch will bring the crystal up like new.. be careful who you get to service it.
Bracelet not original

Do not get it
They will polish the case, which will soften all those lovely sharp lines.
They may redial, clean and mess with the hands.
All you need - is either a bit of Polywatch on the crystal, or a new crystal, new seals if it has any (I think it does) and a service. You should be very explicit that you want nothing else done.

What a lovely find! 100% needs servicing and wearing.
Might be worth emailing Christian (watchguy.co.uk) send him a few photos etc see what he can do, hes servicing my Rolex at the moment, hes Rolex accredited.
Christian is an excellent watchmaker but I’m not sure you’re right in thinking hes Rolex accredited. And I don’t think he’d want to be!Might be worth emailing Christian (watchguy.co.uk) send him a few photos etc see what he can do, hes servicing my Rolex at the moment, hes Rolex accredited.
