I kind of like this, but I wonder if it’s a bit OTT?

I’m thinking the standard blue is a better long term bet?

I love them.

I went for the black version in the end, as I couldn’t justify the price differential - not talking about the same movement here.

Although the want has never gone away. If you like it, you should go for it.

Going used should save you a good chunk off list.

Back in 2014 this was THE watch that got me into watches. I couldnt stretch to buy it so like the previous post, ended up with the black one and coudlnt have been happier until I sold it.

Be careful to buy at the right price - significant discount is available if you persist. But second hand values tank - walking into a Goldsmiths and buying a Monaco for let's say, £4300. The same jewellers will offer to buy it off you for £1800 the next day. If resale values matter to you, then consider this heavily.

I like the idea of it but a bit OTT for me. I could imagine a few years down the line maybe regretting the purchase. I bought a blue one many years ago and still enjoy wearing it. It's the only watch of mine that gets complimented from non watch buffs.

I tried the Gulf Monaco on in Macys in Orlando last summer and they had it on sale for $2300+tax and then I qualified for another 10% off as an overseas visitor - I was very tempted for myself and bought one for a colleague that I knew was after one but it is a big watch (bigger than I realised from images)

I like it and tried it on at Beaverbrooks but the price isn't anywhere near what I'd find acceptable for a) a TAG b) this model over the black version c) on a leather strap. Is it a different mech??

I prefare the solid blue verison as it will match with more things.

I tried both the solid blue versions on last week, going for the brighter blue model (with blue leather strap) later this year, its got a calibre 12 movement rather than the other watch calibre 11.

Not sure what the differences in the movement are and what discount do you reckoon I could get for cash, any feedback appreciated.

I was briefly tempted but despite my love of Gulf colours there’s no provenance for the colour scheme in this watch so it’s a premium for a non-limited edition with no history.

In the end I’ve decided to go for the original blue with Calibre 11 which was the original automatic chronograph movement

I managed to buy a blue version of a calibre 11 earlier this year for what was the original purchase price in 2014 of £3200. Same version new now is £5350.
Mine's as new and I wear it for high days and holidays. Love it.
How have they increased in price by £2k in 6 years?

I have this version of the Gulf one of 5000. Got it for a very good price after a small stint of working in a Tag store.

Sadly it not been worn in a while and has stopped working. Really need to send it away to be fixed.

Gulf with Calibre 12?

How far off retail was it? Was this the 2009 special?

Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I think these are a bit naff. Dare I say on par with the Omega Bond / 007 tie in.

The standard watch looks great, but I can't get on with the Gulf tie in, no matter the history etc.

yeah was the 2009 one. Would have been about 2011/12 when I got it direct from Tag head office. Im pretty sure was around 60-70% off at the time or something silly like that. Was under £1800

Just found it and its out of 2500

Yes the 2009 was a limited run with the C12, the current offerings are

Heuer branded with C11 with or without Gulf (without being the one for me, Gulf as mentioned above is just a gimmick)
Tag branded with C12 or with battery movements (big price difference ranging from 2k through to near 5k)

I know the C11 is a bit pricey but I love the 70s style, my partner was all over the round faces saying they look more "normal", if I wanted normal I'd stick with my 70 quid easyJet Hugo Boss hehe

I know somebody who has one of these, and not only is he a proper wide boy, but he's quite a lot of a dick too. I'm afraid it informs my opinion of the watch.
