Discussion
Don't worry, I don’t have a take of woe to share. However, at home insurance renewal last month I was asked to provide a professional valuation of my stainless Daytona as it had gone over £10k value. Just after that communication, a family member had his 2012 GMT II stolen, and it was only covered for the price paid when new. Ouch.
Anyway, my watch was ready for collection yesterday, and even in its “wear commensurate with its age” state, the value was given as another £2k over my top estimate. Shocked.
I called the insurance company this morning and it works out at about £3 per month extra, then I upped the total contents insured, and covered the watch for outside the house, £14 per month extra. Bargain.
I can relax now

Would insurers pay out ‘’market price” when the list price is much lower (despite being not easy to get hold of)?
The valuer has given it the cost to replace like for like. The insurer accepts this as the item’s value. Make it clear with the insurance company. The valuation certificate also makes it clear that it’s no longer in production (116520) so it’s not even a matter of waiting for one at ‘list’. What did the valuation cost?
My home insurance is due for renewal, and Hiscox have increased the premium by a huge amount so I need to shop around. Problem is, my Daytona is pretty much identical to yours (black face SS, 5.5 years old, box and papers) so I guess it's similar value. At least Direct Line told me anything > £10k needs valuing (although they were just as expensive as Hiscox anyway so there would be no point moving).

For the valuation by a registered valuer, including a thorough report with photos and even a statement about it being no longer being in production, £78 incl vat.
I had planned to drop it off with Goldsmiths in Bury St Eds at an agreed time, but they weren’t open, so I went to Thurlow Champness instead.
And I tell you what, the Rolex displays were looking a little sad! One of the guys there built up a collection of Rolexes before prices went silly. He brings them in sometimes for potential customers to get at least some idea what they look like on the wrist!

Does it get a new serial number or do they add the original one?
Do you know I’m not sure now. I’d assumed it had the same serial number on. Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
