Dear all,
My eldest has a day of significance coming up later in the year, and I'm thinking of getting him a watch, up to the amount on the header.

He likes busy watches, with multi dials , he has a TAG, an Armani and several others , chronometer are they termed? Anyhow, is there a standout brand at that sort of price? Needs to be mechanical auto or self wind, , I'd imagine stainles steel, cannot see gold at that price.

Any comments, pointers, anyone?

Chronograph. A chronometer is a watch that has passed a load of tests.

Sounds like a Breitling might be suitable if he likes 'busy'. How much is a Navitimer these days?

ETA

How about something like this at £4620?

In fairness, there is no 'best', as it is entirely down to taste. Ask him what he likes?

If he usually likes busy watches, perhaps he needs something simpler, or more distinctive, or more clasically elegant.

Suggestions might be a Tag Heuer Monaco (the Calibre 11 version with just Heuer on the dial) or a Rolex Oyster Perpetual - I'd vote for the blue dial version.

Take a look at a zenith el Primero chronomaster. Well under £5k after discount for brand new.

You won't get any recognition from people who don't know watches (unlike a Tag) but you are buying something with history and serious bang for buck in today's watch market.

It was mentioned further up but this explains why. The moonwatch is the only watch he'll ever need unless he goes diving and can be found for c.£3k new.

It’s a good call on the Moonwatch.

If he knows what it is already, he’ll be delighted.

If he doesn’t, then once he’s looked it up he’ll be even happier!

Moonwatch is never a bad call (unless you're going in water).

Thanks everyone for your input , I'm wiser now than before I made the post. What I shall do nearer the time is get his opinion on some of the watches highlighted and see what his reactions are. I've been told of another make , Chopard, Mille Miglia, is it? I'll see what he thinks of that as well. Then its likely a visit to London dealers.
As you may have gatthered, I'm not particularly knowledgable when it comes to timepieces . My tastes are also the opposite of my sons, it's slender , minimalist watches which please my eyes. I like the Piaget 900p , and a couple of jaeger and Patek Philippe models , but whilst affordable, they fail epicly in my personal justification curve (especially the latter) , there is just not the pride of ownership for me personally to go to such expense. Each to our own, I suppose.

Anyhow, thanks again, and if I remember I'll post what the outcome is.

For me it’s between the Zenith and the Speedmaster (although I have a penchant for Tudor (have 3) and bought an Advisor a few months ago).
Personally I’d go for the Zenith as it’s a beautiful thing and most people won’t know what it is (albeit they will be TAG fans and so are irrelevant).

If he likes 'busy' watches as you refer, then you can't beat a Breitling Navitimer. I have a blue faced one with a blue leather strap, and love it.
