Hi all

Can anybody recommend where I can get some watch valuations done & insurance companies that ensure watches?

I already have my watches insured as individual items on my home policy, which I am not uncomfortable with keeping there (there might be better prices going to a separate policy though) but I need to get the values right.

I don't have anything super expensive but I was quite shocked at what Rolex 50th Anniversary subs are selling for compared to what I paid for mine.

This thread mentions Goldsmiths for valuation :

I've just renewed by home insurance and have my watches on that. They didn't need valuing, but did state I need proof of ownership - receipt or valuation certificate.
I do have the receipts, but think I'm probably going to get valuation anyway. The Daytona mentioned in this thread sounds identical to mine (even bought the same year) which means that the purchase price I paid in 2013 is a tad irrelevant if I needed to claim (I've specified £15k on the insurance).

I've discovered that Ernest Jones do 'valuation days' where they have valuers in the store for face to face valuations.

My local one has one on 1st July - first item is £60, additional items are £30 - so I will get both of my watches valued for £90. Seems a decent deal.

Lots of local jewellers will compete a insurance valuation for you too. There are bodies that approved insurance valuers are registered too. Check your insurance companies requirements.

Rolex dealers should also be able to compete a insurance valuation too.

Did my watch, House insurance accepted it no problem.

£20 for 1, £45 for 3 etc.

Thanks - might give that a go, and cancel EJ if I'm happy with it.
