Hi Guys what’s quickest way to get my deepsea serviced?

Is it really ok for me to post it in an insured envelope?

Luxurywatch.com are offering full service under &300 in 14 days ?

Thanks in advance

I had mine done by watchguy.co.uk and was very pleased with the service, Christian posts pictures online so you can see it in pieces and kept excellent communication. It won't be 14 days though more like 3 weeks.

I posted mine insured special delivery.

Special Delivery only covers up to £2500 though? Anything over and there’s no cover whatsoever.

I thought with the Deepsea and it’s depth rating, it could only be serviced by Rolex?

Consider that whilst it’s expensive and time consuming, with a genuine Rolex service, you get an official Rolex 2 year warranty and official Rolex warranty card to suit. This goes a long way toward maintaining/increasing the watch’s value as it effectively comes back with a set of genuine Rolex papers. Not only proving authenticity, but service history, and it being officially logged by Rolex as being a genuine piece still in circulation. Particularly relevant if you don’t have the original papers anymore, and I’d say worth it for this alone. The value increase from that will at the very least (likely more) cover what the service cost.

You don’t get any of that with an independent, which may or may not matter to you.

I thought the same, due to the pressure test required

I only use official Rolex for servicing and has added huge value. Great to spend time at the dealers too trying to get on the elusive ‘list’! biggrin

Thanks Guys.

I would actually prefer to send to Rolex, but its the time thats a little off putting I think around 8 weeks away!

Happy to be told otherwise.

I have box and papers bough from new.

My main concern actually is the watch has quite a few battle scars and I think could be doing with a clean and polish. On discussion with collector though they mentioned this is a bad move and to leave the scars?

I’ve yet to have my sub serviced, but sent it away in November to be regulated under warranty - it took about 10 weeks I think, but assuming they shut down over Christmas I wasn’t too offended (it was free, after all)

Very happy with the service, watch runs like... well, like a Swiss watch now and came back in a green velvet(?) pouch and hard outer ‘after sales’ plastic box

As for polishing, Rolex is probably among the best places to get it polished, and will be done by the best people (one would assume) but I think those referring to the scars are those that see the appeal of a well worn watch over a pristine one (think dirty supercar vs garage queen).

Pay the extra, get it done officially, especially if you’ve taken the effort to retain its original documents and accessories

From what I hear the service is usually much quicker than the quoted 8 weeks, unless you have a rare piece, or one that needs a lot of work.

Regards the polishing up of it, you can specifically request not to have that done if you’d prefer the keep the original appearance. Although I’m not sure how relevant that is with respect to non special edition/vintage watches.

What’s the difference in cost of having Rolex do it or one if the well recommended independents?

Where is the Rolex service place located?

I would use Rolex them selfs it will add to valve and you get a 2 year warranty plus
When I sent my LV in it came back looking like a new watch
Think I paid about 600 euros which is a bargain when compared to what I had to paid
For my Sinn , Seiko or Corum for that matter

Rolex RSC is Kent or Central London, circa £600 for rolex + parts needed.

I paid watchguy.co.uk £240 and he used genuine Rolex parts

That’s quite a difference.

When I chopped in my first Rolex for my current one, no mention was made of service history at all. The only thing that seemed to be relevant other than the watch itself was the original box and papers.

The watch that went in was arguably overdue a service, which is why I was in the dealer’s in the first place but it didn’t seem to make a difference, I was pleasantly surprised by the numbers.

I’ve also heard some poor reviews of the London RSC.

Another vote for watchguy - brilliant service on my (nearly 25yr old) Submariner. 3 week turnaround, excellent communication and the pictures are great.

Does your watch really need a service? If it's keeping reasonable time and generally functioning well why bother? It's going to get scratched again anyway.

Posting things is a PITA, I eventually used the Royal Mail option (max £2500) and crossed my fingers. I just couldn't find another way of doing it, so would be interested if someone else found a courier company that insures for more. Without a trade account.

That's exactly how I did mine, being my late fathers watch I was very nervous, Christian (watchguy) said in his years of doing this hes never known a watch to go missing using that option.

The pictures was the icing on the cake for me! loved seeing all the small bits that go into it to make it go.

Regards polishing, I’d go for it and get the battle scars dealt with. It’ll be included in the price of a full service at Rolex anyway. It’s a modern Rolex so I wouldn’t be concerned with keeping any patina or anything like that.

I’d maybe think differently if it was a vintage piece or one with sentimental value.

To be perfectly honest its the polish Im really interested in.

It keeps time just fine, but I do feel it's lost a little of its bling over the years. Theres also a very slight nick on the ceramic bezel which Im wondering whether can be fixed.

Any suggestions as to where to get it polished?

Does the watch guy do this only?
