Hi Chaps
My Insurance up for renewal, what happens if, for argument sake, you have a Rolex Daytona, to buy new 9500 GBP but impossible to get hold of, 19000 GBP would be the replacement cost, would this be acceptable to an insurance company? or would they just cover the retail cost? in essence it would be an "old for new" policy!! Also, does anyone have any recommendations for watch insurance companies?
Appreciate any input.

My Daytona is a listed item on my home insurance (Aviva) where I've declared its value as £15k. My receipt (2013) shows just over £9k (I bought new, but paid over list - the difference was much smaller then).

I intend to get mine valued within the next month, to give a realistic replacement cost. Somebody posted on here about a similar watch a couple of months ago - also a 2013 stainless black face Daytona - and it was valued at £15k, so I'm expecting the same to be true for mine.

That was me!

A worthy change to the insurance, and it’s now covered outside the house too. I’m a big unit, and very rarely go to nasty towns and cities, but my wife insisted it was properly insured now that we just can’t afford to replace it ourselves.

I would be very careful you make sure you read the small print on any cover you get as I've heard so many horror stories on insurance companies only paying out on the rrp on over list watches! They are OK taking your money but when it comes to paying out on a claim they tend to only want to pay what the watch is retail! If you don't tend to vacate stty areas I would suggest spending the money on a good safe??? What a beautiful country we live in that you work hard to buy nice things and have to worry some peice of st robbing it from you!

“If you don't tend to vacate stty areas”. ?? Are you sure you know what that means?

Why would I buy a safe? The watch is either in an occupied house or on my wrist.
Last year a colleague had his house broken into while at work. The burglar/s destroyed a large area of his house in the ten hours they had while getting the safe out. Not only his watches went, but so did the passports, jewellery etc. Alarm was useless too.

I live in a quiet area of low crime. I’ll never live in Cambridgeshire again though. That county is riddled with burgling scum. My insurance costs plummeted when I moved here.

It was my insurance company that insisted on a proper valuation of the watch. They fully understand the situation with the SS Daytona, and know there is no ‘list price’ as it’s no longer in production. In fact, an unworn, with stickers attached Daytona would set me back £18-20k, at best.

Make sure the pieces are named individually on the policy so that you cover yourself for the market values.

Hiscox are the best guys.

I was with them until they increased the premium by about 35% this year. They did the same a few years back and then became very competitive again a year later.

Anyone using either TH Marsh or Highworth currently or any other recommendations? Looking for comprehensive worldwide cover for a watch ~£12k where should the worst happen I don't want to be fighting with them over getting it sorted, just need confidence/peace of mind. Thanks in advance.

I know what is meant by stty area, I just don’t understand what you said, ie “If you don't tend to vacate stty areas”, as I made obvious by quoting that.
