Just a heads up for anyone who might be interested. The Newmark company have a new Kickstarter project.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/569227021/new...

I've pledged. If it's any where near as good as their 6BB then it will be an excellent watch!
I have no connection with the company. I just think they're really nice.

I submitted my pledge yesterday and will go for the no-date and 60min bezel option with either the blue or black dial.

I'm wearing my 6BB today, 'photo to appear on "Wrist Check" in 3, 2, 1...

The 6BB is a favourite in my collection.
Think I'll go for the black face with date and black 60 minute marker bezel . I like the vintage look. I know it looks cleaner without the date but I like the complication. Though god knows why as I can never read them without a cyclops and my glasses on!

I've just found out that there's V.A.T. to pay on top of the pledge price as the watch will be shipped direct to the purchaser from outside the E.U. The details are there on the Kickstarter page under "Shipping", I never scrolled down that far and presumed that all would be the same as the 6BB i.e. shipped to me from within the U.K.

I thought it best to post this just in case anyone else had missed it.

Thanks. I was going to post similar myself. It means that the pledge I made of £319 is now going to cost £382 and, adding import duties, it comes to about £400. I really don't think the watch is worth that. Nice as it is. The 6BB I backed previously did not have any additional costs. I believe the difference is that the 6BB was assembled outwith the EU then shipped to the company before selling. The 71 however is being shipped directly to the customer meaning there are import duties to pay. Apparently this was all in the small print but wasn't obvious to me at the time. I'm afraid I'm cancelling my pledge.

I pledged in the first 5 minutes it was live at £299.
I also didn't read all the way down and don't consider an extra £60/70 a price worth paying.
I cancelled last night and on checking 5 minutes later the pledge had been filled.
Shame really as as the blue no date looked very nice.

I've had one of those in my box of watch bits and bobs for ages. I bought it intending to clean it up and have it serviced, but I didn't get around to it.

Bumping this thread back to the top with the news, for those that aren't already aware, that the watches will now all be dispatched from the UK instead of from outside the EU. We'll have to allow for an additional 2 weeks for delivery however that's an easy pill to swallow and Ewan still expects to do his usual quality checks before delivery begins.

This, of course, means that the additional VAT will no longer be added to the purchase price of the watch woohoo

A silver ND dial has also been added to options list, which is a bugger as I thought I'd already decided on a blue ND dial... biggrin

That's good to hear. I wish Ewan all the best but I'm afraid the whole Kickstarter thing has lost its flavour for me over this.

Not sure if you're referring to me or Ewan but I think that's a bit harsh. If it was me then I accept that as I am a tt most of the time. If it was Ewan then it's a bit unfair. It's a fledgling business and at this stage I would imagine he has got a lot of costs to worry about. I'm sure this experience has given him pause for thought. At the end of the day, it's a lovely watch but became just a bit too pricy for me.

Not you.
As I put at the top I backed this at the 299 price and thought the blue ND was very nice.
I pulled my bid when the VAT etc came out as it made it too much money.
I'm a tt most of the time.
