Dealer recomends
Discussion
After doing some research regarding a watch for my son, and reading this forum, (and others) I'm gradually convincing myself to get a decent watch. Unfortunately for my wallets sake, I can find no watch brand that impresses me more than Lange and Sohne. Especially the lange 1, mainly becuase of its appealing looks , especially with the moonphase addition. Although I should be thankful in a way, as some other models demand prices way beyond what I am prepared to stump up.
So, a couple of things , can anyone recomend any good independent dealers from where I can reliably source the make I mention, I am talking used watches here , I see no point in buying new .
Also of course , somewhere I could get the watch serviced at reasonable cost, if need be.
Lastly, this site seems an impressive operation, anyone had any dealings with them?

That looks like the exact same model I mentioned above. Did you buy new or used?
Another thing I'm curious of, being effectively a watch rookie, is that people talk of achieving , what appears to be substantial discounts on asking prices. Is this a phenomena which occurs across most brands and dealers, and does it normally apply to used, as well as new watches?

I'd recommend George Pragnell in Stratford-upon-Avon. They have both new and used A. Lange, with the used list here:

I can see one moon phase on it, but it's not the version MG has (nice watch BTW!)
I visited the store a couple of years ago while looking for a Reverso and they let me try on this:

For which i'm eternally grateful
They also have stores in Mayfair and Leicester.

Have you looked at a Glashutte as they do similar designs, not got one but did try a Panoreserve on at Berry’s in York just could not justify the cost as my pockets are not as deep as some on here Another thing I'm curious of, being effectively a watch rookie, is that people talk of achieving , what appears to be substantial discounts on asking prices. Thanks all for the contibutions. The Stratford shop looks good, I must pay them a visit. I'll have to see what other offical dealers there are in that brand, help me to avoid the nightmare of going to London. Yes, I'd looked at the Glashutte brand, especially the panomatiklunar. Unfortunately, its an automatic(i want a manual) and all the comparison reviews I've seen, whilst expalining the Glashutte is a darn good watch , the lange and Soehne is very noticably in another league quality wise. Having said that of course, the lange is heavier on the wallet, sadly,
Curiously, there are several models offered by Lange that I really like visually, (i struggle to find one with other makers including PP) . I like the Lange 1 and its moonphase variant, also the Zeitwerk and the Richard lange. Sadly, the latter 2 go way off the justifiable scale , having on your wrist what amounts fiscally to a brand new 911 , is way out of kelter in my mind. Great for those who can justify such, but sadly, out my justify league.
Incdientally, can anyone advise in a ball park sense the average cost of a service on a Lange? I'm looking specifiaclly at the automotive equivalent of a routine oil change brake check kind of thing, not where parts are needed . Roughly?

Worth noting that Pragnell’s have ceased selling AL&S and AP, since AP have been moving towards mostly own brand boutiques and apartment style retailing.
AL&S are also on Bond Street within Wempe, so both brands would’ve been competing with them, and in both cases, reserving certain models/colours for themselves only.
If you want manual wind, and don’t plan to sell (negating concerns about residual value), then look at Moritz Grossmann (also from Glashutte) and keep an eye out for pre-owned Urban Jurgensens.
If you can live with an auto movement, then consider the likes of the FP Journe Octas (38/40/42 mm)
Depending on budgetary constraint, you might also fancy a unique piece from Laurent Ferrier… https://www.chrono24.co.uk/laurentferrier/lf12601-...

The standard service is 795 Euros ....top end service including a new strap is 1200 Euros ....you should be able to pick up a watch the same as mine for sub 20k in as new condition ....if you need any suggestions then contact me direct
Thanks again all. Servicing costs seem to be roughly inline with what I was expecting. Having said that, I note one high end retailer recomends that watches are serviced every six months, I bet they do! The cynic would observe that a watch that needs a six monthly service to maintain quality is not a good watch. Well, thats my take on it.
Thats the nub of it, I suppose, when delving into a specialist subject , to try and dig out what is good practise and what is opportunist bull. I'm gradually learning.
