I'm interested in a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1A - my understanding is that these are £23k brand new, but there's a waiting list. Anyone any idea how long you'll be on the list and how hard they are to get?

Any chance of discounts on new or is that a silly question smile

If there's a waiting list you have zero chance of discounts.

You won't get on a waiting list at an authorised dealer unless you are a 'preferred customer'. It's a bit like walking into a Porsche centre and asking to buy a GT car rolleyes

Is this true worldwide, or just the UK? I travel a lot to the states, middle East etc

Oh, no; in the USA, the wait is around twenty minutes, and the middle east is a couple of days. It's just the UK that has a fifteen year wait.

As others have said the waiting list is either closed or 15 years plus.

Edit: nono sorry, not allowed.

You laugh, but in 2011 when the UK wait for a SS Daytona was 7 years, the AD beside me in Norway received a black and a white faced SS Daytona every 6 weeks!

But what's to say they hadn't ordered each of them seven years previously?

What? They don't order them, they get allocations as per AD's. Or better, they can order what they like but Rolex sends what THEY like!

If an AD wants a particular watch, they can ask for it. If they don't want something, they can request not to have one.

I went into a Patek AD a few months back to inquire about a steel Aquanaut. After 20 mins of round the houses conversation, and being told the waiting lists were closed for both the Aquanaut and the Nautilus, I was presented with a gents Pilot, a lady's Pilot and a gents Calatrava and was told if I purchased them there and then I could have an Aquanaut within six months, Nautilus a year to eighteen months.

I politely declined.

Irony is that the pilot is a waaay better looking thing than a Nautilaus!

You've made the classic mistake there! You've accidentally thought the Pilot doesn't look horrid.

I always thought the Pilot was pretty horrid, but I have to say it's much much nicer in the flesh than in photos. Still wasn't remotely tempted though! The funny part of the whole thing was, I went in with my wife, who hasn't got the first clue about watches, or anything about the Patek brand. She tried on the lady's Pilot, (after removing Apple watch) waggled it about on her wrist, sucked her teeth in and basically turned her nose up. The assistant went to get another piece and she turned and asked me how much it was, I said "34...", i knew she didn't understand me, so I i had to reiterate "34 grand" .......I wish I'd filmed her reaction!!!

34 grand for a watch that looks like a copy of a U-Boat.
