Hi All,
I'm looking at Omega, a limited edition but was released a couple of years ago. The chap at GS said no disc at all. They ordered it in from another store where it's been for a while unsold. Earnest Jones have said they would do the same watch with a little money off (only 4 and bit %) and have one in store. I'm keen to purchase from GS as I'm on a list/merry-go-round for another piece and they have been very polite, I've said I need to think about it, my issue is that Omega had their price rise in October, I'd be happy to pay pre-Oct list as the watch has been in the GS group for a while. I understand this is massive first world probs but I like to ensure that they have "moved" somewhere during the deal as well, what would be the best tips for achieving the discount I'm happy with?

Thanks
R.

It depends what watch it is you are talking about but Goldsmiths seems very firm on their pricing these days and I’ve had no joy with them no matter what I’ve tried. They are obviously confident they can sell it where the other dealer couldn’t. If you’re on their list for a specific watch anyway then it sounds like you’ve done what is required to get said watch so I’d shop elsewhere if they won’t budge. Perhaps for one last try you can secure a deal in writing with another dealer and then take it to them saying I’ll pull the trigger on this it you can’t give me some discount, choice is yours.

How are you funding the purchase? My experience of GS was the you could have 0% or discount, but not both.

Funds are sorted so no finance option required. As DRl22 suggested I'll try to get the offer from the other AD in writing and use that. Of course I'm buying at completely the wrong time of year! I'll see how I get on, walking away is always an option, patience can sometimes be a virtue!

Thanks guys
R.

Just walk into GS and say so and so are willing to sell it for £X, can you beat it? How hard can it be?

This. And if they won’t move, take your money elsewhere.

Did that! Walked in, stated what I was prepared to pay, got agreement in less than 5 mins. Walking away earlier in the week probably helped.

What did you end up paying against list,

Limited edition or not I can generally supply at around 20 percent off list. Give or take.

I got discount on my Omega and GS too, usually about 15%.

GS are generally more willing to give the discount, even on Limited Edition models, whereas my Omega dealer is not, so I take my business where it is most appreciated at the time.

Through a work benefit, I can get 20% off at Goldsmiths
They must be making a fair profit still..
