I’ve always admired the type xxi especially in precious metal, beautiful, underrated watch and am considering adding a rose gold type xxi chronograph to my collection.

I’ve tried the watch on before, it does wear big at 42 mm but was a good fit for me.

Does anyone here own one or have past experience of a type xxi? I would appreciate any comments from past or current owners? Never owned a breguet before, how are they reliability wise? I know servicing will cost more than rolex obviously, don’t mind that..just want to know if they are especially fragile or have any known issues?

The watches I am considering are all recent (few years old) full set box and paper, near mint/mint.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help...

Hi,

Thank you, I will get in touch next week.

I am also really interested in hearing from any owners of a type xxi. What has your experience of the watch been?

There's not a lot in terms of reviews (from owners) around it seems so am keen to hear from anyone that has one before I go any further...

The service cost is surprisingly reasonable, I am sure a guy on TZ posted last year £595 inc vat!

Is that done by Breguat via an AD?

If so, yes very reasonable. It’s not a mega complicated watch or anything but thats still quite fair considering the brand.

I have one (3810BR) and really love it. The dial has to be seen in the flesh as pictures don’t do it justice.

Agree regarding the dial it's stunning. Seems to change colour in the light, can appear anything from charcoal, to black, to a rich/dark brown. In pics it tends to look more black but in videos under good light the brown comes out more.

How has yours been reliability wise? Is it a robust watch generally?

RE the TZ thread: that is actually the older type XX that service price is quoted for. Type XXI I believe may use a different movement?

My chrono function had an issue with the second hand overshooting on reset but otherwise no problems. I had the same issue with my Patek 5968A so might be something I’m doing.

Thanks for the info.

Has anyone else got any experience of the type xxi?

There is a Breguet AD not too far from me (Berry’s i think) I think I will check the exact service cost with them and share it here for anyone else that might be interested.

I recently bought myself a 2016 XXI, it’s the base spec so it’s steel and on a brown leather strap.

The quality feels right up there as far as I can tell and the deployment clasp is particularly easy / well designed.

Servicing is something like £750 if done by Breguet. I was quoted that price in the Bond St boutique last month.

They are a relative bargain second hand, I paid under half the UK RRP for a watch in excellent condition with box and papers. The box is a work of art in itself!

I haven’t seen many others around, in fact I’ve only ever seen a XXII, which looks too big to me.

Thanks for that. Yes, the boxes are beautiful.

At around 10k used the gold type xxi is a bargain for sure compared to a gold royal oak chrono etc. It's a bargain even compared to a Daytona although that is maybe a harder comparison to make. It's probably 4 times cheaper than a patek chrono. That does not matter if you don't like the watch of course but I do, it's just interesting how underrated it seems to be.

Regarding price, I am a little confused. The 3810BR/92/9ZU (rose gold type xxi) which is now the older model I always saw retail at around 20k. Now this watch which is supposed to be discontinued is available on watches of Switzerland site etc. for 17,300. Are they just getting rid of a last few remaining pieces they have? The new version which is 0.5 mm smaller and has a slightly different dial, see through case back, and different strap is 20k retail, same as the older model.

The 17,300 is just ad's sites with stock pics, so maybe they don't actually have the watches. The older model has been taken of Breguet website so not sure why ad's still have it listed at a different lower price.

Just had a look at the one that Watches, above is selling. Looks lovely. Not a watch I've really looked at before but that is a stunner.

Watches is Edinburgh Watch Company by the way.
