Twas my dads watch, I rarely wear it, it’s a lovely thing though, I dug it out on Sunday as I was in a short play on Monday and had to look at my watch.
It’s running slow, it is automatic and is loosing maybe an hour in 24hours.
Would anyone know if it is from lack of use and will eventually catch up.?

It will need a service....

There will be many who can do this for you - and, importantly, not restore it. Restoration for some manufacturers means putting it back into 'new' condition with new dial, new hands and heavy polishing. Not something you really want.

It can be serviced and will keep good time.

Yep, it needs a service.
You should specify that you don't want it polished or in anyway restored.

It is, by the way, cloud9

Thanks very much, would any, in your opinion, reputable watch repairer be ok ?

Yes. You'll pay an un-necessary fortune if you go highstreet jewellery chain or main dealer.

Take a look at the BHI's website and find someone near you who does repairs. Or contact RiggaTheMighty on here, or Joe at the Anglesea Watch Centre (he used to post here as Variomatic).

It sounds like the oils have dried up. It just needs disassembling, cleaning, & rebuilding / relubricating.
It should cost around £100ish.

Worth doing a bit of research and seeing if you can get a personal recommendation. It's a precious watch.

This chap is very good:

As is:

And there will be others too.

Try Riggathemighty on here too.
Good reports from those who have used him.

What would one in that condition be worth?

+1 - he fixed an old Omega for me for a reasonable price (as well as a few Seikos and Citizens). Lovely guy to deal with too!

Another vote for Joe at Anglesey Watches.

Make sure you send it insured.

Don’t ask me why I‘m recommending this, as I might cry.

If its gold plate, around £450 to £500ish. If it's solid 9k add £150ish.

Of coursed to the OP, its invaluable, it was his Dad's watch.

Like the sound of Anglesey, we visit regularly so that would be easy enough.
I am pretty sure it is gold plate, not an original strap but it sits so beautifully on my wrist.
I’m now wondering why it has sat in the drawer for years.
Thanks again to everyone for the input.
