Posting watches - insurance

In the end just risked it and did the Royal mail £2.5K insurance option.
This isn’t at all addressed to you (would be useless doing so anyway, given they’ve already been sent!), but more so to warn others. The RM service is very good & reliable, and there’s little chance of it becoming lost in the UK.
But.
If the item sent exceeds that £2.5k value, then there is no insurance cover whatsoever, because it has breached RM’s T&C’s.
It won’t be the case that RM cover the first £2.5k of the loss and you then bear the rest of the uninsured loss in excess of £2.5k yourself. It totally invalidates the entire cover with them, and they won’t pay a penny. So, if sending a £3k watch, for example, it’s not the case that you’re only risking a £500 loss - the entire £3,000 is at risk.
I’ve read some have struck lucky with claims, but that says more about getting a dopey RM employee than anything else, I think.
It was definitely in the RM T&C’s last time I personally checked, a few years back, and has been extensively discussed on other forums too.
Some alternative options for sending are DHL, Mail Boxes Etc., or some use IFS Inforsure also.

Hi all,
I’ve got 2 watches that I want to send to Simon Freese for a service. Tried posting them via Royal Mail and they only insure up to £2,500.
I need £10,000 insurance. Can anyone recommend a courier or alternative?
Thanks. Rob
Talk to Simon - I've a feeling he might be able to cover the insurance separately; Simon will send you out a postal pack that includes a return label etc, and I think that also includes higher value insurance.I’ve got 2 watches that I want to send to Simon Freese for a service. Thanks.

UPS insured my sub at its value.
Not sure how long ago this was but this is what’s stated on their website; No Protection items:
The following items (or any item similar in description or content) can only be carried on a no protection basis on any service.
Any person sending such an item does so at their own risk:
(Watch is one of the things on this list).

I don't know if Simon covers shipment with PP, but it's worth asking. He certainly sends and receives lots of watches >£2.5K.

Was a couple of years ago to be fair. Cost at the time was around £80 IIRC.No Protection items:

If you search for other TZ-UK IFS links, they’ll bring up that chap Jeroen’s contact details so you can try and set up a personal shipment.
