So pressie from the family to me.

I'll be the one paying for it!

I did look at a tudor black bay 58, however it was a little too small in 'real life'. however I did see the pelagos, LHD. Really liked it but at £3400 it was more than I wanted to spend.

However a trip to Zurich has revealed that watches of Switzerland at heathrow T5 will sell me one vat free, so £2866 with the extra strap etc.

Any reason not to? what else should I look at?

its a watch to wear, not an 'investment' as such, however I would like it not to bomb in value.

The LHD is my favourite Tudor reference, and it is relatively rare...only seen one in the wild.

The second I would consider is the Tudor Harrods...but that has a six month lead time. It also costs about £2800 ish.

3rd choice would be the GMT. Have you seen one of those?

The best looking dive watch you can buy new in my opinion is the Rado Captain Cook. Easily within your budget too. Comes in blue, black or green. I'd go for the blue dial with the beads of rice bracelet. cloud9

The Captain Cook is nice but personally I prefer the Oris Aquis GMT https://www.oris.ch/en/watch/oris-aquis-gmt-date/0...

A Longines Hydroconquest with ceramic dial would also be worth considering.

Re your watch not "bombing" in value I'm afraid you're going to take a hit on any watch you buy - with one obvious exception - I'd come to terms with that before buying.

I’d second this. My Pelagos LHD is probably my most worn piece, beautifully crafted and some really nice details. The titanium and the left handed crown really set it apart. Put it on the rubber for the ultimate ‘go with everything’ watch. In my non- biased opinion of course biggrin

Thirded. Mine's always on the rubber strap, great for most occasions.

Yup, from everything mentioned above the Pelagos would be my choice too.I think it just looks 'right'

The LHD model is even better, the creamy lume etc looks awesome.

Couldn't have a blue one though.

All lovely watches!

If you’re looking for the vintage dive watch, consider the newly released Invicta 1953, ref. 31290, obviously a little under budget but really good and about as far from the typical Invicta stereotype as you can get!

At that price no dive watch would come close in my personal opinion, it's a lovely watch.

I don't mind taking a hit, the fact I can get the tudor lhd with 20% off will help. I just don't want it to loose 50% instantly. thats all I mean.

I appreciate Rolex, however for me, its a bit too 'known' and people will see a rolex. Part of the appeal is being a little more discreet, while having the same build quality.

I've an Oris divers watch, which I bought about 15 years ago, I do like Oris, however already having one of the brand, makes sense to have something else.

Be very careful buying from any airport in Switzerland.
A friend bought a Rolex from Geneva and was pulled up at customs and had loads of hassle with them. You legally need to declare it and HMRC frown if you don't.

Just as bad. If they're selling it VAT free then on return you liable for the VAT as an import.
HMRC can get a little grumpy if you're not careful.

I think effectively you just get a discount to the same amount as the vat.

Make sure you check.
If it is a discount equivalent to VAT you're good to go. If it's just no VAT charged you could be in a world of pain if not careful.
Make sure the receipt clearly shows VAT has been paid.
