eBay or chrono24?
Discussion
I’ve recently gone through the same thought process and Chrono24 does look much better. There are far too many tales of woe and scammers from using eBay particularly around PayPal.
I’m selling three watches on C24 at present and had an offer this morning on my Speedmaster Pro from a buyer in Italy. It’s slightly below what I think I could get for it but bird in hand etc. I don’t know how much stock is really shifting at present. Once I get more comfortable with the escrow system they have, I’ll be sending it to the buyer.

I have sold an Air King and a Pelagos in the past couple of months both on ebay, waited for a max £1 selling fee promotion, stated bank transfer only and collection in person only, the Air King sold to a lovely chap in Bournemouth, i drove there and delivered in person, lokked the watch over and transferred the money there and then, same deal with the Pelagos, except i drove to Suffolk from Cheltenham for that one, got decent money for both and only charged £1 in fees, obviously fuel on top though. Apart from lots of stupid low ball offers like £1250 for the Tudor there were no real scammers to speak of, now Schpock on the other hand.....

Is there any preferred place to sell?
It’s not a high end watch (Sinn ezm3) but expensive enough to want to take precautions and not get ripped off and hopefully sell to a decent buyer. Any other place suggestions appreciated.
I just missed out on buying an EZM-3 on Chrono24. I've used both sites to sell watches. Chrono charge 7% hold the money in Escrow and in my opinion because it's purely for watch purchases, seem to get a more straightforward selling experienceIt’s not a high end watch (Sinn ezm3) but expensive enough to want to take precautions and not get ripped off and hopefully sell to a decent buyer. I've sold a few watches on Chono24, 6.5% fee hurts a bit if you're selling something expensive but the escrow account is useful.
Not had much luck selling via the PH Classifieds personally, had a couple of Rolex pieces listed for a while without any interest, most recently listed a cheaper Tudor watch so will see how that goes.

A sticky thread to that effect isn't a bad idea - it has never occured to me to use PH classifieds for anything other than cars.
Another vote firmly against selling on Ebay by the way - haven't done it for years after two consecutive buyers claimed the items I sold (used mobile phone and a used car radio) were faulty, opened complaints, clawed back their money, then sent back not NOT the items I'd sold them but actual broken ones.
Neither eBay or Paypal gave a damn. You may as well just throw stuff in the bin - its less hassle and cheaper.

I have bought on eBay and sold on Chrono24. I found the higher selling price on Chrono24 more than covered the extra listing costs. I was also able to sell to Switzerland with confidence.
I wouldn’t recommend eBay for buying or selling but I take a calculated risk to make watch ownership effectively free.
I have also bought from watch-U-seek forum which worked out well.
If I was to sell any of my current watches it would be through chrono24.

Just to update: sold my EZM3 on Chrono24 this week.
Listed within 2 days and although I was initially a little concerned that you’re committing to 3 months, I started getting enquiries immediately and sold it yesterday.
Watch delivered this morning at 10am and the money was in my account this afternoon, minus 6.5% fee.
Really, really impressed and head and shoulders above eBay.

Bumping this, looking to sell and it’s a £1 selling offer from eBay this weekend. Is general wisdom still thinking it’s a better bet on Chrono24? It’s a Tudor Fastrider Black Shield, so not the most expensive watch ever but 6.5% still bit of a hit.
Thinking eBay not worth the risk but welcome thoughts of others? Not talked enough rubbish to be able to sell on TZ-UK

With eBay you’re better off having a ‘top end’ fixed price to the value of what you’d like to receive, and wait for offers. You can then pick and choose who’d you’d be willing to sell to, based on feedback and time on eBay. Never post a watch, arrange a meet up somewhere safe and request bank transfer only. Then there’s no recourse if the buyer wants to return the watch later on or complains to eBay that they’ve been sent an empty box, etc etc. eBay is very much on the side of buyers so that’s why you must insist on buyer collects and bank transfer once the buyer is happy. eBay is by far the cheapest method and smoothest as long as you pay due diligence.
The problem with auction is that you cannot choose who wins. Normally it’s a time waster with low to zero feedback who’s out to scam you.
