Really annoyingly at work today I managed to screw up the glass on my Seiko Arnie.

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get it repaired and roughly what cost I would be looking at? headache

Standard answer would be Joe at Anglesey Watches, he did my TAG Carrera glass quickly and cheaply.

If you have home and contents insurance that includes accidental damage then claim on there and they will refer you somewhere.

I've done it for a damaged watch and is, at the end of the day, why we have insurance. Premiums were unaffected too if you are worried about that.

I really wouldn't go down that road unless the watch costs many thousands. When you come to renew your insurance you have to declare any claim made in the last five years. Even if you don't, they will know anyway. They simply then bump up the cost. They will get the money back someway. Your insurance excess is probably going to be much more than the price of replacing the crystal.

If you're using it as a beater/work watch just carry on.

The likelyhood is it will pick up more damage.

I'd probably only replace the crystal once It became hard to read the time.

As I mentioned in my original post, my premium was unaffected. Maybe it would be different if you claimed on a regular basis.

The watch in question is a 60's Omega. Excess was £90 and the repairs were > £700.

I would ask Joe Horner to replace it for me, and Id have a look for a sapphire crystal to replace it with. Joe will be able to get a mineral glass as well as they can be bought, should you replace like with like.

It's an Arnie! Not exactly a dress watch. No need to worry about a scrape or two smile

Thankyou for the input everyone.

It wasn't planned to be but has become my daily watch which I use at work, but it is also my favourite (and most expensive) so would like to keep it looking its best. I have a pretty tough working winter lined up though so may take the advice to leave it until I get back in the UK in Spring in case it picks up any more marks.

Nice to see a tool watching being used for its primary objective.

I trust the base isn't on the bit that's just floated off.

No thats a different part of the ice shelf a few kilometres North thumbup

The papers have not done very well at explaining what is happening down there, but here is some more detailed information if you are interested

I watched the TV programme (at least I think it was a TV programme, although it might have been Youtubes) on the relocation of the base. It must have been disappointing when they decided it couldn't be permanently manned becasue of the cracks.
