Cartier - SANTOS DE CARTIER
Discussion
What’s the general view of Cartier men’s watches? I’ve been thinking of getting an AP, however, these have really caught my eye - obviously a lower price point but I quite like them - I’d never really associated Cartier with men’s watches before.

Many thanks
I like the Cartier watches that I've seen. They tend to be well finished (though probably not in the AP league), and a bit quirkier than the usual suspects.
I'm interested in the Pasha, though not had a chance to see one yet.
If you're looking at the Santos, also check out the Santos Dumont. It was originally released as a quartz, but they've brought out mechanical movements this year. It's a slimmer design than the regular model.
The Santos is actually well protected against magnetism, although this isn't a particularly well advertised fact for some reason.

I bought a Cartier Santos 100 (large) for my 40th in 2007, which they don't make any more but it's much the same as the new Santos. It's been a joy to own. I've worn it every day. I also had a gold-steel Rolex Sub at the time, but it never came out of its box so I solid it. I think they're beautiful to look at. It's amazing how many compliments I've had about it. And you don't see many of them. Cartier really look after you, too. I've been back (to the boutique on Bond Street) for a few other items over the years (watch for the wife, anniversary ring) and you get the full works - champagne, limited edition books, etc. I say 'go for it' OP!

Cartier are an interesting watch brand - the Santos is over a century old, so it has some heritage.... Cartier watches are also emerging from being 'jewellery' to being proper mechanical watches. The movement in your watch is an in-house movement which, for most serious watch collectors, is (rightly or wrongly) the zenith of watchmaking. https://www.cartier.co.uk/en-gb/collections/watche...

So it all stacks up! Therefore if you like the design (which is iconic) then you can buy in the knowledge that it's actually a decent watch.
I would be tempted to buy it on a bracelet - for a couple of reasons. The new bracelet is beautifully (and cleverly) engineered and easy to size and swap out of for other materials (leather etc). The bracelet will be harder wearing for daily wear allowing you to move to leather for evening wear (for example).
As noted above - Cartier know how to treat their customers. It's a big plus. None of this bizarre courtship to buy a watch - I've been a customer a few times over the years and have been superbly treated.
Thanks guys - that’s all really helpful.
I do love the look of the watch and I’m looking for an all black/dark watch, I just wasn’t sure how they were viewed,
After reading your views I actually got half way through ordering online.. then realised I’m in London next week so may as well have a look at them in person.
I’ve bought my other half quite a few bits of Cartier and the service has always been good - the champagne, baubles and books have been a nice touch, they’ve also kept in contact every 6 months.
As a comparison, when I emailed my Rolex AD to ask whether I was any further forward in my position to get a Pepsi Sub they said I’d need to come in and ask to be added to the list... this was 18 months after being in the shop and asking to be added to the list... grrrrr
